As of Thursday, March 7, five members of the Senate committee on women, children, family relations, and gender equality have signed a document objecting to the ruling of committee chair Senator Risa Hontiveros to cite embattled preacher Apollo Quiboloy in contempt and order his arrest. The panel is investigating allegations of exploitation, torture, sexual abuse, and other offenses against former members of Quiboloy’s Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
Senate rules provide that a majority of the members of the Senate committee, in this case eight, have seven days from March 5 to overturn the contempt ruling.
The other members of the panel are senators Nancy Binay, Pia Cayetano, Grace Poe, Raffy Tulfo, and Mark Villar. Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva and Senator Loren Legarda are ex-officio members.
