NEW: Today’s EU Auto Plan must mark a line in the sand for concessions on car industry climate targets.
While it includes positive steps on corporate fleets, slow movement on battery manufacturing and the weakening of CO₂ targets will see Europe fall further behind China.

The EU will also consider giving financial support to battery recycling, an industry which has huge potential to reduce mineral imports but is struggling to scale up in Europe.
Meanwhile, the vague announcement on European content requirements on battery cells and components lacks urgency or resolve.

NEW: The EU Commission will propose a weakening of the 2025 car CO2 target.
If implemented, it would delay the scale up of EV production in Europe and remove pressure on the industry to roll out cheaper EV models this year.

🇪🇪Estonia saw the most improvement in 2024, with 84% of new city buses being battery-electric.
