Dan Tudesco, leader of Brita dedicated lead reduction initiative, is celebrated as a Hydro20 honoree for his work partnering with over 320 communities across the U.S. to combat lead contamination in drinking water. By collaborating with water utilities, Tudesco ensures pitcher filters are provided to residents during the critical transition period after lead service line replacements, addressing the ongoing risk of lead contamination and transforming moments of uncertainty into safety and support. Inspired by the tireless work of utility leaders and professionals, he admires the complex labor, materials, and planning involved in lead service line replacements, driving his commitment to support their efforts. Hydro20 is an initiative of waterloop in partnership with @scienswater and is supported by Antea Group, @EnvDefenseFund, and Human Capital Solutions. Learn more at hydro20.org/

I can't wait to see so many great water people in some great water cities over the next two weeks. 💧 Here's the itinerary: ☀️ San Diego for WateReuse California: I'll be speaking about my upcoming series The Golden State of Reuse (launches Oct. 6) and what I learned at water recycling facilities around Cali. Thanks Brenley McKenna for the opportunity! 🧀 Milwaukee for Catalyst: My waterloop teammate Cody Scott will capture insights and vibes at the most unique, communications focused event in water, put on by superstar @ChelseaBoozer of @RogueWaterLab. 🍎 New York City for Rethinking Water: I will be asking attendees "what is something we should rethink about water?" and unveiling the Hydro20, a list of 20 people driving water sustainability. I'm grateful for partnership with @scienswater and Alex Loucopoulos. 🏙️ Chicago for @WEFTEC: I will be interviewing companies about the latest trends and solutions while trying to say hello to many of the 20,000 colleagues at the biggest show in water, put on by @WEForg. Reach out if you'd like to connect at any of these stops!

Sure is cool to see lead line progress in person…
Pittsburgh has transformed a 2016 lead water crisis into a national model, replacing over 13,000 lead service lines with copper. Funded by SRF loans and infrastructure grants at no cost to homeowners, @pgh2o is over halfway to its 2027 goal of full replacement.

In California, a 115-million-gallon reservoir of recycled water irrigates seven golf courses, including the famed Pebble Beach, using 260 million gallons annually. Launched in the 1990s to ease pressure on the Carmel River, this project’s advanced reverse osmosis treatment ensures low-salt water for pristine fairways.

After visiting SoCal reuse projects, the Delta, and Central Valley ag fields — I’ve got questions about Delta Tunnel. Should it even happen? Do cities really need it? Shouldn’t farms get water instead? Are small towns being ignored again? Is this just a political move for Newsom?
California's water future could be shaped by a $20 billion gamble with the controversial Delta Tunnel. This episode dives deep into the high-stakes project with Camille von Kaenel, California Environment Reporter for POLITICO. She unravels the complex plan to transport water from Northern to Southern California, detailing its immense cost, the decades-long permitting battles, and the stark divide between its proponents and opponents, including Governor Gavin Newsom who champions it as a climate resiliency project as his term heads to an end. With Southern California utilities facing budget holes from successful conservation and a dwindling Colorado River supply, the conversation explores the decisions ahead and whether to invest in the massive tunnel infrastructure or prioritize ambitious local water recycling projects. Learn why this debate isn't just about water, but about politics, endangered species, and the very identity of California's communities. Episode at bit.ly/NewsroomDeltaTunnel

Smart communities are putting stormwater underground. Oldcastle Infrastructure’s MaxWell system is a dry well that captures runoff, filters pollutants, and recharges groundwater. 💧 waterloop thanks @OldcastleInfra for sponsorship of a recent episode: bit.ly/StormwaterUnderground

I always check out local waterways when traveling. I’m particularly interested in how cities “package and present” their rivers. This evening I found the Buffalo Bayou in downtown Houston. Looks like they’ve tried to create public connection but it didn’t feel very used.

For World Water Day I was invited on a paddle to one of the oldest trees in the world, a 2,600 year old bald cypress in the Black River in N.C. It’s mind boggling to think of all that has happened while this tree grew. Extra special to take my son along for the adventure.

I’ve been to a lot of cool water places and Barton Springs in Austin ranks up near the top. I visited on a 90 degree day and after the shoot got to enjoy a swim in the crisp, clear water.
Barton Springs isn’t just a place to cool off—it’s a vital piece of Texas’ water future. Fed by the Edwards Aquifer, this spring provides water to millions, making sustainable groundwater management more critical than ever. Watch the episode at bit.ly/SavingTexasSprings
