π± Save Seeds, Grow Your Own, Secure the Future π±
Fellow gardeners and future-builders: Letβs take action today for the generations to come.I have been posting about this for more than a decade we could see the changes coming twenty years ago .
Why it matters:
β’ Preserve heirloom & open-pollinated varieties adapted to YOUR local climate, soil & pests
β’ Reduce dependence on big seed companies
β’ Build real food security and biodiversity
Simple seed-saving basics:
β’ Choose the strongest, best-tasting plants
β’ Let fruits (tomatoes, peppers, melons) fully ripen β ferment, rinse & dry seeds
β’ Dry beans/peas/lettuce on the plant β thresh & store
β’ Potatoes: Use disease-free seed tubers (or experiment with true potato seeds from berries!)
Storage tips: Dry thoroughly, label clearly, store cool/dark in airtight jars. Many last 5β10 years.
Grow smarter:
β’ Start small: containers, raised beds, or backyard plots
β’ Build soil with compost & mulch
β’ Rotate crops, companion plant, attract pollinators
β’ Easy winners: tomatoes, beans, zucchini, potatoes, greens
Every tomato seed you save this year could feed your great-grandkidsβ garden someday.
Start this season. Teach your kids. Share with neighbors. Join a local seed library.
Together we create resilient, abundant food systems.
