RBC Canadian Open leader Ben James was ELEVEN years old when he verbally committed to UConn. Props to the coach that offered him. I remember the story well, especially since it was before NIL. His decision to sign with Virginia ended up working extremely well, leading to him finishing 1st in the PGA Tour University rankings to get his tour card.

Top courses from the most prolific golf course architect between the Golden Age and Modern Eras. - It’s rare to see the Top 3 all be public courses - Never knew the original design of Medalist was done with Pete Dye & Greg Norman - PGA West (Stadium) was banned many years ago for being too hard. It’s now an average challenge for the pros - Dye created some of the best tournament tests that exist. Long, difficult, and visually intimating shots make scoring tough - There are 20 Pete Dye courses in the GOLFR Top 500

Top Courses in PA Few states have the depth of courses, especially in the Philly area. Only New York is the only other state with two 10.0 courses, both are incredible U.S. Open venues. William Flynn built a superb collection of courses here, someone who is often forgotten in the mix of the more well known Golden Age architects. He is best known for Shinnecock, but I often think about how high the floor is for his work. See the full list and share your favorite courses with friends on GOLFR.

Bandon Trails Coore/Crenshaw 2005 36th in U.S. on GOLFR Bandon Trails is one of the best modern designs in the U.S, and arguably the best course on the property. The inland design among the several oceanfront courses impresses with an incredible routing through the trees. The bunkering and shaping is impressive. The stretch starting on the downhill 3rd and ending on the 17th has no weak holes. Multiple drivable Par 4’s alongside a variety of Par 3 lengths make the round a ton of fun. The challenging greens have a mix of severe and subtle break. A mix of playable and punishing bunkers make good iron play a premium here. See what pros and golf nerds think of each course at Bandon on GOLFR.

The Carolinas have some of the best golf in the country. The Pinehurst region is tough to compete with, especially when talking about public golf. Kiawah, Aiken, Charleston, and Myrtle Beach are four additional areas to find amazing golf.

CapRock Ranch Gil Hanse 2021 Valentine, Nebraska CapRock Ranch is one of the best modern designs in the world. Extremely unique terrain near the border of Nebraska and South Dakota creates an incredible mix of dramatic cliffs and what you see at Sand Hills. Gil Hanse did a great job with the routing, especially on the memorable finishing stretch that utilizes the best land on property. The course has a group of five Par 3’s that stand out, with four fitting perfectly fit on the edge of the cliffside. The 200 foot drop into the canyon features thousands of trees and the Snake River. Hanse designed the course understanding the wind would play a massive factor in how the course plays. Wide fairways allow for small misses to be punished by worse angles and blind approaches, rather than having to search for your ball. The greens here aren’t as undulating and extreme as many Hanse designs, primarily due to how quick the greens get later in the summer. The course has a ton of variety with some strategic short Par 4’s and a wide range in Par 5 lengths. No green feels the same, with Hole 2 (pictured) featuring an awesome half punchbowl that’s hidden from the fairway. CapRock Ranch is 2nd in Nebraska and is a 9.5 in the GOLFR Rankings. I think the Top 5 golf trips are pretty clear - Bandon - Wisconsin - Monterey (including Pasatiempo) - Pinehurst - Streamsong 6-10 is a lot harder……….Northern Michigan, Kiawah, Sea Island, and Palm Springs come to mind. What do you think should be next on the list?

This is pretty bleak. What was a great opportunity to give public golfers a taste of golden-age design now will be an expensive Fazio. Highly recommend reading up on what’s happening at East Potomac.
You have to grudgingly respect that Fazio isn't even pretending that his version of East Potomac will "incorporate themes of the original Walter J. Travis design," as the press release from the Trump administration claimed it would. He's just like, "Nope, Walter Travis was an idiot, I'm blowing it all up."
