This project came out of the AAST delegation to Morocco following the 2023 Atlas Mountains earthquake, with a focus on disaster response, trauma system development, and opportunities for ongoing collaboration. Grateful to Dr. Livingston, the AAST delegation, and our Moroccan colleagues for the opportunity to contribute to this work on trauma systems and global surgical collaboration.

When the world shut down, trauma patterns didn’t just change they disappeared in real time.

Not all traumatic brain injuries need the same pathway but figuring out who does and who doesn’t is the hard part.
This TSACO multicenter study helped refine the original Brain Injury Guidelines into the modified BIG (mBIG), aiming to improve safety, standardize decision-making, and reduce unnecessary admissions, imaging, and consultations in mild TBI with intracranial hemorrhage.
