Excited to share our article in @TSACO_AAST: This project came out of the AAST delegation to Morocco following the 2023 Atlas Mountains earthquake, with a focus on disaster response, trauma system development, and opportunities for ongoing collaboration. Grateful to Dr. Livingston, the AAST delegation, and our Moroccan colleagues for the opportunity to contribute to this work on trauma systems and global surgical collaboration. tsaco.bmj.com/content/11/2/e… @traumadoctors @CUDeptSurg

Being the Editor in Chief of @TSACO_AAST has been one of the highlights of my academic career. Thanks, @tfabian1 for getting us started 10 years ago. Happy birthday to the journal.

This is a perfect example of what can happen when the leaders of national organization put their minds together and act on a vision. @traumadoctors created @TSACO_AAST from scratch and @tfabian1 got it going with this kickoff editorial in 2016. tsaco.bmj.com/content/1/1/e0…

Baltimore’s “Break the Cycle” summit brought together hospitals, community groups, researchers, policymakers, and violence survivors to tackle gun violence through collaboration. The message was clear: healing requires sustained partnerships, community engagement, and making sure there’s “no wrong door” to access help. Every application cycle is a chance to bring more of our colleagues into the room with us. The 2026 application window is open through July 1, and every application starts the same way: a current Fellow writing a letter for someone they have trained, partnered with, operated alongside, or co-authored with. If there is a colleague whose work you respect who is not yet a member, this is the cycle. aast.org/get-involved/aast-j…

So proud to be part of the @TSACO_AAST social media team. It’s been wonderful working with such a great team and participating in dispersing impactful research to the surgical community. Grateful for the experience
30 papers. 10 years. Countless lessons in trauma, critical care, and acute care surgery. As we close out TSACO’s 10-year anniversary celebration, our social media team (@MyaMahankaliDO, @AlikhanSukaina, @annehhoekman) wants to thank everyone who followed along, engaged with the series, and celebrated the research, authors, and innovation that shaped the last decade of TSACO. Most importantly, we want to sincerely thank the mentors who made this opportunity so meaningful — Dr. Elliott Haut (@elliotthaut), Dr. Jeffrey Nahmias (@jnahmias1), Dr. Ronald Barbosa (@rbarbosa91), and Dr. Caroline Park (@CPark_MD) — for their support, guidance, and mentorship throughout this year. Here’s to the next decade of TSACO!

One of the unexpected highlights of fellowship was getting to serve as a TSACO social media intern. Beyond the papers and videos, it was the people, an amazing team committed to education, innovation, and trauma care, that made this experience so meaningful. Thank you all!

When the world shut down, trauma patterns didn’t just change they disappeared in real time. This TSACO study on the early COVID-19 shelter-in-place period showed a striking and immediate reduction in trauma activations, offering one of the first clear datasets on how behavior and injury epidemiology shifted during lockdown. For TSACO’s 10-year anniversary, hear directly from Dr. Joseph Forrester. Read here bit.ly/3PC2EyS Authors: @LisaMKnowlton, @DavidASpain

Not all traumatic brain injuries need the same pathway but figuring out who does and who doesn’t is the hard part. This TSACO multicenter study helped refine the original Brain Injury Guidelines into the modified BIG (mBIG), aiming to improve safety, standardize decision-making, and reduce unnecessary admissions, imaging, and consultations in mild TBI with intracranial hemorrhage. A paper that continues to shape how trauma and neurosurgery teams operationalize “low-risk” head injury care. For TSACO’s 10-year anniversary, hear directly from Dr. Abid Khan. This TSACO guideline series helped bring evidence-based, practical decision-making to some of the most common emergency general surgery problems surgeons face every day. Trauma surgeons know the sickest patients don’t stop at one complication. This TSACO paper on postinjury multiple organ failure helped redefine how we think about inflammation, critical illness, and the downstream consequences of severe trauma. This is years after “damage control” first entered the lexicon. For TSACO’s 10-year anniversary, hear directly from Dr. Lisa Kodadek.
