A PARENT’S JOURNEY THROUGH YOUTH SPORTS: Age 5: “He’s got a cannon.” Age 6: “He’s the fastest kid out there. Coach said so.” Age 7: “Rec ball isn’t challenging him anymore.” Age 8: “We tried out for select. Obviously made it.” Age 9: “$2,800 for the season. Plus uniforms. Plus tournaments. Plus hotels.” Age 10: “Cooperstown is basically a family vacation, right?” Age 11: “He needs a hitting guy. And a pitching guy. And probably a mental performance coach.” Age 12: “I’m not a crazy sports parent. The OTHER parents are crazy.” Age 13: “We changed schools. For academics. (And also baseball.)” Age 14: “Showcases are a requirement at this age.” Age 15: “Ya his ranking just ticked up. We’re cooking.” Age 16: “He just needs to get seen by the right school.” Age 17: “The D1 schools want him to walk on. He’ll earn a spot by sophomore year.” Age 18: “Okay, D2 is actually really competitive.” Age 19: “He’s redshirting. Strategic.” Age 20: “He’s focusing on school now.” Age 21: “You know what? He’s so much happier.” Roughly 7% of high schoolers play in college. About 1.5% of those get drafted. Less than half of draftees ever play one day in the big leagues. The odds of our kids going pro are somewhere between “struck by lightning” and “find a $100 in old shorts.” I love youth sports (all my kids play a bunch of them) just keep a good perspective my friends. ✌️

You know the deal before deciding to play circuit 🏀Easy Fix - Go back to supporting/playing community lead sports. Local Summer Leagues indoor/outdoor parks and rec. or understand the $$ will be what the market allows. Simple economics
Look at the price to attend AAU basketball this weekend in Pittsburgh. The get-in price for Game 1 of the Cavs playoff series tonight in Cleveland was $43. (via @ohioaf)

COOL INTROS Hats off to Hazleton for how they did the starting lineups here tonight. They played Billy Joel’s “Allentown” when the @ACCHSVikings girls were introduced and the theme for “The Office” for Scranton Prep.

What an honor to have juniors Luke Lehman and Avery Ewer, and senior Brycen George recognized by the Division coaches as all-stars this season. Luke was named Player of the Year/1st team, and Avery and Brycen to the 2nd team.

Alright here's the vid Where every state hosting their high school basketball state championship, by capacity
Putting together where every state hosts their high school basketball state finals for a video coming out today. Very eye opening 1. How often states change locations for this 2. How unserious of a venue some states put these in

Our season came to an end last night. What the group accomplished this season far exceeded expectations and we gained valuable experience with our postseason opportunity. The young men showed up every day...eager to learn and aspiring to be the best they can be. Proud coach.

The one thing I don't understand is why colleges throughout District 10 aren't begging for playoff basketball games. How else do you get hundreds of prospective students on campus with no effort? I'd plant an admissions counselor or two next to the ticket booth as well.

Love seeing local colleges open up their facilities for postseason basketball. Wish a lot more followed suit. It’s a win-win for great facilities for players and exposure for the colleges.
Awesome to have the YAIAA championships back inside Charles Wolf Gym!

Didn't know what to expect coming into this season with an inexperienced team, but I knew we would compete and work hard in everything. That effort and growing experience has earned us a ticket to the postseason! Nothing better than the second season!

District 11, .500 or better in league play and you are automatic districts qualifier.
Replying to @tsave31
If a team played well enough to qualify for its league playoffs (based off league play & 2/3rd of a season’s games), it should be a District playoff qualifier…in my opinion. Road win incentive may not help this situation — who knows. But may be an improvement to the formula?

There’s a glitch in the system if a team can qualify for its league playoffs but not qualify for District playoffs (Hempfield). Can’t fix everything, but is there something in power ranking formula that can be improved? My opinion: add an incentive to the formula for road wins
Might’ve taken the scenic route to get there, but Hempfield is back on top of the Section One heap. Just like the old days. Aside from being a Section One team (in a league where the big schools almost always win), if they only have L-L’s as their last hurrah, that’s also scary
