Still plenty of time to register and listen on demand. Was a fantastic day of education and learning with practical tips for best care of older patients in the Emergency Department
Thanks @sean9n you were great! 🌟 @RCEMLearning#frailty#frontdoorfrailty#GEM
What’s your most important organ?
I’d sometimes rather see a 4AT than a blood pressure. (Both is best, of course, but the state of the brain is vital) 🧠❤️
Dr Tom Bartlett presenting on Hospital@home services. Many different areas providing acute level care in the patients own home @RCEMLearning#frailtystudyday
Dr Thomas MacMahon presenting on RCEM End of Life Toolkit. How often do these two puzzle pieces match when discussing end of life with patients and relatives?
@RCEMLearning#frailty
Great start to the #RCEM focus on frailty study day. Tom Gentry from @ageuk presenting on what can make a positive difference to older patients living with frailty with an acute medical need
@RCEMLearning
Happy to see another NHS Trust @SFHFT endorsing #SASsix and committing to making it a reality for their SAS doctors.
Doing what's right, congratulations @Simondroe@totallytigers, Rob Simcox, Dr Ritu Kothari.
Important slide from Dr Carly Welsh. Importance of identifying delirium early in the ED.
Higher rate of mortality and longer LoS for pts with delirium. Higher rates in Pts with high CFS @GeriSoc#bgsconf
To ensure timely discharge for patients in hospitals, more investment is needed for community services. Older people are particularly at risk of poorer outcomes if kept in hospital when medically fit - @JKDhesi
Exactly, this is why we need triple assessment at the front door - NEWS, CFS, 4AT. Will help to get the right team to the right person at the right time / institute evidence based care that delivers what matters to the individual @GeriSoc@RCPhysicians@RCEMpresident@UKHaHSoc
Honoured and delighted to have been awarded a #RCEM College Medal for my contribution to the College and work in Geriatric Emergency Medicine and frailty. Wonderful to celebrate with family and other RCEM graduates. Thank you!
Never underestimate the journey of an unpaid carer as their loved one moves into a care home. They have likely had their own needs set aside, probably been ignored by professionals & had to fight for the rights of both themselves & their loved one... that's trauma.
Approaching the 1 year anniversary of CESR application submission. No outcome. Have just been informed by @gmcuk that it has been sent to a ‘specialist associate’ for assessment as opposed to a college assessor….
