There is no serendipity in this game, you have to work your ass off, prove your worth and let people know you mean business. You need not only know your onions, but the carrots and lettuces too. The game is rigged for the truly gifted and gritty.

Attention to detail. Pay it and it will pay you. What makes a senior developer apart from skills and experience is attention to details. They want cover all bases and eventualities, they see what others don't see. Learn to see what others don't see and stand out from the rest.
For almost everything you want to learn in programming/coding, there is a book by O'Reilly. Look for it and you'll be glad you did.

Unless you have a background in programming/computer science, you can't become a developer in 6 months. It is unrealistic, going from zero to 100 in 6 months. Don't fall for those who will tell you anything to gain your follow or attention. Be realistic.
