Over 20 million Nigerians are currently living with chronic Hepatitis B infection. That’s nearly 1 in 10 people. Meanwhile, everyone is running from HIV and Hepatitis B is quietly doing more damage. HIV kills roughly 1.5 million people globally per year. Hepatitis B kills close to 2 million. It is deadlier. It is more contagious. And it spreads faster. Hepatitis B is transmitted through blood, unprotected sex, sharing sharp objects like razors, clippers, needles and from mother to child during childbirth. You don’t need to be “reckless” to get it. The barber’s blade. The hospital that cuts corners. The mother who didn’t know she was positive. That’s how entire families carry it without knowing. And that’s the most dangerous part…NO SYMPTOMS.
