In 1758, French architect Charles-François Ribart proposed L’Éléphant Triomphal, a colossal elephant-shaped monument for the Étoile, where the Arc de Triomphe would later stand. It was not just a statue. The elephant was designed as a three-level structure with rooms inside, gardens around it, and a fountain flowing from its trunk. At the top, Louis XV would appear above the animal as a symbol of royal power. The project was never built. Instead, it remained one of the strangest unbuilt monuments in Parisian history — a vision that could have completely changed one of the city’s most famous views.

Pavilion of the Empire of Brazil, 1889 Paris Worlds Fair is one of my favorite structures. Whilst not as big as the Tower of Jewels or Palace of Industry, there's something about it's spire that really captivates me. On another note, who puts the time and energy into building something so grand and then finishes it off with such an underwhelming, frail looking fence?
