They say Twitter isn't real life and I truly hope this is the case. The sheer amount of vile racist comments on this platform over the last week is simply mindblowing.
If you say something negative towards a political party singing a song about killing people then you are shown Apartheid images or called a "Verwoerd Lover" or "Eugene Terreblanche supporter". And no, not just from mindless EFF bots but from Members of Parliament.
As a white South African you are treated like a racist, like someone who supported an atrociuous system... not because you actively did but because your profile picture or your name or surname represents that of a white person... or as many politicians on here will say... a "pink pig".
The ANC also refuses to even acknowledge any wrongdoing on the part of the EFF. They would rather "sit this one out" so as to not look as if they are defending white people.
We are leaderless in this country. Our government doesn't care about all its citizens and the organizations like
@SAHRC and Mainstream Media Outlets like the
@dailymaverick continuously decide to defend the indefensible.
Have we truly learned nothing from Apartheid? Are we really doomed to repeat the same mistakes made because hey, at least the shoe is on the other foot this time... despite the fact that most. of the people being affected had nothing to do with Apartheid?
The international community which usually avoids any anti-white slogans or songs actually, for the first time in decades, saw a glimpse of how you are treated in this country by simply being born into a white skin.
We aren't even talking about the over 116 racial laws in this country that discriminate against white people, 29 years after we became a democracy, but merely talking about a song, that to every God-fearing person, would be condemned if the lyrics referred to someone other than a white person.
Yet here we are, the president of South Africa sees no need to condemn it and Mainstream Media is out there defending it. Even our courts see it as a mere struggle song that still has a place in this country, while a piece of cloth is evil enough to be banned.
Let's truly hope Twitter isn't real life because if it is... then this country is doomed. It's that simple.
