I like JCO’s decision to put “Wemby” in quotes, as if he’s just a delusion that selectively appears to some people, like the Madonna, or Havana Syndrome.
parallel with the Knicks' extraordinary penchant for magically rallying, coming-up-from-behind to triumph at virtually the last minute was the weirdly fascinating drama of "Wemby" on the court distinctive not only by his height but the thinness of his body which appeared, beside his teammates, almost pre-pubescent, lacking maturity. no matter where you looked, there was always "Wemby" charging about anticipating an opening to shove, push someone with a solid adult body with a baby-faced look of insouciance: "Who? Me? I' m just a kid."

The kind of politics — all too common in the PMC — that postulates Trump is politically bad because he’s boorish.
This isn’t about who deserves redemption; it’s about who deserves political power. And it should concern all of us that compromised influencers and useful idiots alike are trying to force Democrats to embrace blue MAGA.

This issue didn’t move the polls at all because the average voter looks at this photo and says “Wait that’s a Nazi tattoo?” And then they immediately sympathize with Platner’s story about getting the tattoo drunk in his twenties because they feel they wouldn’t have known any better either.

I’m not a big schadenfreude guy as a rule, but I love seeing these dweebs helplessly watch as their political currency devalues before their eyes.
If you're supporting Graham Platner at this point, you're not really frustrated by the moral corrosiveness of Donald Trump and MAGA, you're just frustrated that the cretins aren't on your side.

What’s the more likely and imminent threat: that the Third Reich will spring up from the ashes after 80 years—or, that Israel will promulgate the same genocide tomorrow as today, yesterday, and every day for the last 2.5 years?
Are you kidding me? A tattoo of the Israeli flag is worse than a Nazi symbol? This should not be welcome in the Democratic Party!

"Never again" they said, as they sat back and demanded no one interrupt while it happened again.

“Why can’t the Democratic Party simply replace the candidate Maine voters have said they prefer?” said the democracy-lover.
I SOOO want Susan Collins out of the Senate. But there's just no way I'm going to ignore all of this. Why couldn't Main Democrats find someone else? For those who plan to vote for Platner, at least don't lie about why. Don't pretend all of this is a nothingburger. It's not.

The woman who founded “Ladies for [Brett] Kavenaugh” is very, very concerned about the safety of young women in politics.
For those of you who think I should've said something at the time, let me remind you of DC's culture for women — and sadly nothing has changed. When I sent this tweet 13 years ago about a Republican staffer, the next morning my boss at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce pulled me into his office and told me "Congressional affairs" was furious and that I could get fired if I spoke to reporters. I had tweeted a photo of the staffer's business card (which I *did* agree to delete) but I refused to delete this. Everyone at Tune Inn was mad at ME for talking about it. Kicking the man out was sufficient, I didn't need to "try to get him fired" they said. THAT was the culture I was in while I was dating Graham. And frankly I'm just done. I'm so done. This just cannot keep happening. I will not one day send my daughters to go work in a congressional office if this culture is not radically transformed. People need to know they can and should speak up when they're abused or when they see abuse—and know there will be no point scoring about what party affiliation they have.

The most consistent position, and the one most people actually take, is "are my political goals helped or hindered by this person dropping out". Nobody will admit this obviously but that's the standard, and honestly I don't see much wrong with that. These are politicians.
Did any takester escape the Late MeToo period — Christine Blasey Ford, Tara Reade, Franken’s uncomfortable touching accusers — with a consistent position on what is and isn’t a career-ending offense?

I’m sure this person‘s interrogative of Platner’s personal life is very principled and methodologically sound.
This is the GOP operative who NYT used as their primary Platner source without being able to corroborate her claims.

What an inspiring message. “I’m still on the ballot!”
New to @CNN, from a source close to Janet Mills: "The Governor remains on the ballot, and in the wake of this week’s stories, people across Maine are reaching out to tell her they’re voting for her and encouraging her to get fully back into the race." #MESEN

Ohhhhh. They’re *freeing* the Palestinians.
Replying to @Reuters
You cannot "occupy" land that's historically yours. You can only free it. Or decolonize it. Ancient religions and cultures like Zoroastrians, Assyrians, Kurds, Jews and Christians all originated there and have been wiped out by hardcore Islamists. The Jews are the last community left, who are still fighting to survive.

Good thread. I’m on team neuroplastic, and until reading this thought the whiff on MS was actually historical.
It's remarkable how off Zeynep is. Just repeating talking points, utterly unfamiliar with the history of these conditions. MS and ulcers were psychologized? False. MS was never "psychologized," it was widely understood to be a neurological condition since Charcot in the late 1800s. Only very, very fringe people psychologized it, and that happened far later. Ulcers were not psychologized. Everyone understood that the pain people experienced came from sores in the stomach lining. They never claimed that was "psychogenic." The question was what *caused* the sores. Most thought stress! Then h pylori was discovered to be necessary for (most) ulcers. However, many people have h pylori (50%)! Not everyone gets ulcers. To this day, there's still debate about why some people get them and others don't. Stress remains a likely culprit.
