Calandra's “labour peace” narrative sounds more like selective amnesia. His government has clashed with every major education union. A united front from education union is key to countering Ford's usual divide-and-conquer strategy. #onpoli #canlab cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/e…

Insightful commentary from @eidlin on the Carney government’s Canada Labour Code “consultation”.
I was up early this morning for a 4:30 am PDT interview with @YourMorning to talk about the Carney government’s plans to revise the Canada Labour Code, which will likely include tighter restrictions on workers’ Charter-protected right to strike. 1/ youtu.be/H6c7cXkQz58?si=XpbX…

Sure, political staff are different from traditional public servants due to the nature of their work, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t employees. Collective bargaining isn’t a threat; it’s a basic safeguard for all workers. thestar.com/news/gta/sexual-… #canlab #topoli

The reflex to treat strikes as a public policy ‘problem’ instead of a democratic tool to rebalance power shows how Carney sees unions: disruptions to contain, not organizations workers rely on for fair wages, safety, and a voice. thestar.com/politics/federal… #canlab #cdnpoli

When our mom needed home care, it was PSWs who provided it. But staffing shortages meant we had to call mom twice a day to ensure someone showed up. If not—we had to provide that care, or she didn’t eat or get bathed. These are the real-life consequences of undervaluing PSWs.
“If we continue to lose home care PSWs to poor working conditions, lack of adequate compensation, and burnout, all of us will feel the consequences.” These workers support us in our homes, but are burnt out and underpaid. This is how we can help them thestar.com/opinion/contribu…

I recall the same argument when Ontario began to permit Sunday shopping in the 1990s. “No one will be forced to work on Sundays.” Instead, management just cut our hours and told us “well Sunday is available.” Bosses will absolutely coerce workers to work. #canlab
NEW - Ontario retailers can open for business this Victoria Day Monday.
