Anglers like me? We’re a pain in the ANS. Aquatic nuisance species are a growing threat to Western water resources. If we aren't careful, invasive mussels, plants, and other invertebrates can easily take over our lakes and rivers. Be a Pain in the ANS! Clean, drain, and dry your gear between each use—no matter where you're going or coming from. The future of Western rivers, lakes and streams is in our hands (and on our boots), and we should be proud to do our part and stop invasive mussels, snails, and aquatic weeds in their tracks.

National Dam Safety Awareness Day is a reminder of both the benefits and risks associated with dams. On June 5, 1976, the Teton Dam in southeastern Idaho failed, releasing water at an unprecedented rate and resulting in the loss of 11 lives and significant damage to surrounding communities. The tragedy led to major improvements in dam safety practices across the Bureau of Reclamation. Today, Reclamation’s dam safety program uses advanced monitoring, engineering analysis and regular inspections to ensure dams operate safely and do not pose unacceptable risks to people, property or the environment. #DaySafetyDay #TetonDam #Reclamation

As Electrical Safety Month comes to a close, it is a good reminder that routine maintenance helps support safe and reliable power generation. Proactive attention to electrical systems helps keep infrastructure operating safely, efficiently and reliably yearround. At Hoover Dam, electricians use a bucket truck to access and clean high-voltage transformer insulators. Dust and environmental buildup can interfere with equipment performance and increase the risk of electrical issues if left unaddressed. Regular insulator cleaning helps improve performance, support reliable power flow and protect critical infrastructure that serves millions across the region.

A recent repair project at Heart Butte Dam demonstrated how teamwork and Bureau of Reclamation expertise can protect critical infrastructure while reducing costs. Crews from Reclamation’s Dakotas Area Office and Technical Service Center repaired deterioration on the dam’s right outlet works wingwall using in-house force account labor instead of a larger construction contract. The project restored the structure, supported reliable dam operations and saved significant costs. Reclamation employees completed the work for less than $50,000 compared with contractor estimates that reached hundreds of thousands of dollars. Projects like this highlight Reclamation’s commitment to safe, reliable and cost-effective water infrastructure. #Reclamation #TSC

The powerful Memorial Day weekend tradition, “Fly Your Flags Over Hoover Dam,” will take place Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Hoover Dam. 🇺🇸 The Vietnam Vets Legacy Vets Motorcycle Club launched this annual ride in 1994, and 32 years later, it continues to grow. The 2.5-mile procession begins on the Arizona side of Hoover Dam and crosses the dam on its way to the Boulder City Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Whether you are riding or watching from the roadside, this annual tradition leaves a lasting impression on all who experience it. Thank you to all who served and to those honoring loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Bureau of Reclamation is investing approximately $52 million from The Hoover Dam Post-Retirement Benefit Fund to support critical infrastructure upgrades and strengthen hydropower reliability at Hoover Dam. As prolonged drought and lower Lake Mead elevations continue to affect hydropower generation, this funding will help advance key improvements, including up to three new widehead turbines designed to operate at much lower lake elevations. Once complete, the upgrades could restore up to 160 megawatts of hydropower capacity. These investments will help strengthen grid reliability and ensure Hoover Dam continues providing renewable power to communities across Nevada, Arizona and California.
