A big thank you to the 70 attendees who joined me & @stonecrops_ at our @uxweek 2018 workshop, "Maps & Markers: Enacting a Strategy to Transform Your Design Team." Slides & maps here: bit.ly/mapsmarkers-uxweek201…
Design justice: Give those who built this city before the opportunity to build this city of the future by bringing not just schooled designers, but people with “PhDs from the block” to create community spaces. @bcleejr@colloqate#UXWeek18
Education, healthcare, safe spaces for reporting harassment... @LisaGelobter encourages us to put tech to public good use. Check out @USDS and @18F.

Listening to @liningy talk about robotic pasta that can program itself on the fly and wondering what Kramer would think. After all, "The hardest part is choosing a pasta that captures the individual."

Instead of relying on all these back-and-forth meetings throughout the product development phases, build documentation from a strong initial phase of meetings between people from different roles to understand each other’s work— extremely good advice from @cattsmall#UXWeek18
A way forward:
Practice: Ask questions that take assumptions out of the recipe
Process: If inclusive design is important, you’ll plan for it, pay for it, evaluate it
Priorities: If you only discuss ethics when it's revenue-neutral, you don't have ethics

So many wildly frustrating examples from @sara_ann_marie on how seemingly small choices made over and over again turn into systems that aren’t just vulnerable to abuse; they’re optimized for it.

.@theextendedmind killed it at #UXweek18 week this morning!! So grateful I could bring a "technical voice" to the discussion to bringing VR-curious professionals into the fold! After giving demos of experiences to the room (Oculus Go rifts) here's some reactions! (1/2)
"Designers are focused on getting disabled people into spaces via ramps, elevators, etc... But no one is considering what happens when we get a seat at the table." @elizejackson at #uxweek18
I love how much so much of the content at #UXWeek18 is about moving away from designing for the dominant paradigm and reflecting on the organizational practices that tie us to unintentionally erasing people at the margins.
Guess what, you can bring a baby to a conference and everyone will be super nice! Thanks to @theextendedmind and @creativeclo for being so accommodating in the VR workshop this morn, and the #UXWeek18 event manager for coming up to say hi!
