Megachile pluto has been officially listed as an endangered and protected species in Indonesia! This is an important step, and those of you who know me you will understand this is near and dear to my heart. 💪

This peculiar looking wasp is an ensign wasp, named after its flag-shaped metasoma. They are parasitoids of cockroach ootheca. The species seen here, Brachygaster minutus, is the only species native to Northwestern Europe, but barcoding suggests there may be a second species!

Not something I expected to see on our kitchen cabinet today: a fruit fly infected with an entomophagous fungus! Spores are already emerging from the swollen abdomen.

The life strategies of #parasitoids are stunningly diverse, but no wasps that attack and develop inside adult flies have ever been described. Our article describes the first one. Its hosts: Drosophila melanogaster and other species of #Drosophila #Entomology #Braconidae

Sycophila sp., a nice little chalcidoid wasp in the family Eurytomidae. They are either gall-inducing or parasitize other gall-inducing insects such as Cypinidae and Cecidomyiidae in grasses. This one belongs to the latter group.

This is genuinely shocking and saddening to hear. Stephen was a great contribution to the @inaturalist community and I am sure he will be dearly missed by many 😢.
The Australian Entomological Society expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic loss of Stephen Thorpe. His expertise in entomology, dedication to biodiversity, and selfless volunteer work will be profoundly missed. Vale, Stephen Thorpe. buff.ly/3z5gHoa
