My Masters of The Universe review that nobody asked for. ...You're welcome.
I really enjoyed this movie.
While all the actors did great, I do wish they had spent a little more time on the CGI environments.
The trailers made it feel like a Thor rip off, but it didn't feel that way when you were watching the movie.
It didn't take itself seriously and was very self aware. From playing the 4 non blondes song "what's going on" that was tied to He-man you tube memes, the silly names the characters were given, and the over acted belly laughs. It wasn't afraid to laugh at itself.
Still, it had its serious moments. The most powerful scene for me, being a moment Adam shares with his father that was set up very well at the beginning of the movie.
As for the claims of it being a "Woke" movie...
All the "Woke" stuff happens on earth and is what's holding Adam back. At the mid point Adam has a conversation with Man-at-arms about not wanting to use his strength to beat people up and Man-at-arms sets him straight, "You're looking at it wrong. " He goes on on to tell him that strength is used to defend the ones you love. And while Adam does try conflict resolution type tactics on lockjaw and Skeletor, the movie reminds you that some evil just can't be reasoned with.
I don't need to see it again in the theaters but I enjoyed it. 7/10 for me.
