Replying to @Superstar_Cars
@Superstar_Cars David Hockney also owned a Mercedes-Benz 450SL in CA. Seems to have owned a Mercedes-Benz 280SL W113 Pagoda in the 1960s.

David Hockney RIP a clip of him cruising through Mulholland Drive Malibu in his softie Rolls Royce with Wagner (Ride of the Valkyries) blasting at volume. A favourite pastime during his time in LA. This clip (by me) is from an exhibition at Lightroom UK.

He had bleach-blond hair and wore a golden lamé jacket. David was very erudite and could talk for hours on almost any subject: Walt Whitman, Gandhi, Duccio, Durrell or Cavafy. He was so intensely alive that ideas just came toppling out. — Peter Adam on David Hockney Beaton

The late, great LAURENCE OLIVIER doesn’t hold back describing what it was like working with Marilyn Monroe on THE PRINCE AND THE SHOWGIRL (1957) I love Marilyn, but she was legendarily ‘difficult’ to work with to put it mildly.

Very sad to hear the news of the passing of the great David Hockney today. A true icon of British art. It was certainly an honour to witness his priceless reaction to the Apollo Remastered panoramas at our Moonwalkers show opening night in London a couple of years ago.

The last two surviving Knight's Cross recipients have reason to celebrate again today, as they both turn another year older. Hugo Broch is celebrating his 104th birthday today. He is now the third Knight's Cross recipient to reach this age. Since the death of Erich Rudorffer on April 8, 2016, Hugo Broch, with 81 confirmed aerial victories, has been the most successful living fighter pilot. Having arrived on the Eastern Front in early 1943, he flew as a pilot in Fighter Wing 54. On March 12, 1945, as a sergeant, he was awarded the Knight's Cross after achieving 79 aerial victories. Heinz Rafoth is celebrating his 103rd birthday today. He is the sixth Knight's Cross recipient to reach this age. Rafoth received the Knight's Cross on April 20, 1945, as a lieutenant and commander of a grenadier company, for a successful defensive action in early March 1945 during the American advance on Cologne. Heinz Rafoth is the last living Knight's Cross recipient who also served in the German Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr).

‘Longevity shouldn’t be an aim in life; that to me seems to be life-denying. Smoking for me is a deep pleasure and 1.1 billion people in the world seem to agree… But we need more people to defend it, otherwise the bossy boots will win in England.’ RIP David Hockney

🚨 BMW HAS SOLVED ONE OF HYDROGEN’S BIGGEST PACKAGING PROBLEMS. The company has developed a new “Hydrogen Flat Storage” system for the iX5 that uses seven slim hydrogen tanks instead of two large ones. This flat design fits into the same space as the high-voltage battery pack used in the electric iX5. This is significant because it allows BMW to build the hydrogen-powered iX5 on the same production line as petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions without major changes to the factory or vehicle architecture. The system stores 7kg of hydrogen at 700 bar and gives the iX5 an estimated range of 385 miles. BMW plans to start series production of the iX5 Hydrogen in 2028, using a fuel cell developed in partnership with Toyota. Why this matters: • One of the biggest barriers to hydrogen vehicles has been packaging the tanks without sacrificing interior space or requiring completely separate production lines • This modular “flat storage” approach makes hydrogen powertrains much more practical to manufacture at scale • It gives BMW flexibility to produce multiple powertrains on one platform depending on demand and regional infrastructure The deeper implication: While battery electric vehicles currently dominate, BMW is continuing to develop hydrogen as a parallel technology, particularly for larger vehicles and longer-range applications. Being able to build both BEVs and FCEVs on the same line is a pragmatic engineering step that could make hydrogen vehicles more commercially viable in the future if the refuelling infrastructure catches up. CUISINE: "He died in 1956, in Paris, from a fall out a window. He was 84 years old and weighed 150 kilos. Until the very end, he ate."
