Dear Veterans, in the journey of navigating disability claims, remember you're never alone. Reach out to fellow veterans, support groups, or trusted professionals for guidance and assistance. Your courage and sacrifice deserve unwavering support.
When the VA receives an initial claim for benefits from a veteran, it creates a “claims folder” for that veteran. You can request a copy of your claims folder from the VA under the Federal Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act.
Most veterans are allowed to begin their claim between 180-90 days before separation from military service through the Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD).
With some exceptions, if you have less than 90 days of active duty remaining, you won’t be able to file through BDD.
