Delighted to share our new UKRI AHRC Catalyst Award Project - Reliance or Resilence? Volcanism and the Ancient Maya
The project will also partner with @varve_fukuiarch.ox.ac.uk/volcanism-and-…
Congratulations to @Dr_DMcLean who has begun her new project exploring the multifaceted relationship between volcanism 🌋& the ancient #Maya! @OxfordTephra We are excited that this project will partner with the Fukui Prefectural Varve Museum. Follow Danielle for updates.

Spent a few hours today looking at bits of crystal mush that are included in the lithic lags associated with the large caldera-forming eruptions. There are some impressive crystals @emmalouisehorn
Last week we had a great time visiting @GEO3BCN_CSIC in Barcelona and carried out some tephra sampling. 🥼🌋We also took a trip to see some of the volcanic cones of La Garrotxa.
Just back from sampling some tephra and sediment cores in Barcelona. It was great to work with the @GEO3BCN_CSIC team. Also managed to see some of the volcanic cones of La Garrotxa and the impressive @espai_crater volcano museum

ALT Fig. 7. A: SG14 cryptotephra layers plotted against the Lake Suigetsu pollen based mean annual temperature reconstruction spanning the Late-glacial to early Holocene (Nakagawa et al., 2021). Red line: 100 year moving average. Also shown are the local Suigetsu Pollen (SGP) event stratigraphy marking the boundaries between Stadial (S) and Interstadial (I) conditions and the onset of the Holocene (H) (Nakagawa et al., 2021).

First paper of @SophieVineberg's doctoral research is out 🥳 She documents the melt compositions of explosive volcanic eruptions between caldera forming events from Ischia and Campi Flegrei, which provide further constraints on the magmatic systems
