We are short by 330 OTs per million people in higher income countries @thewfot . This is why community rehabilitation is a priority area for growth @theRCOT . We must address equitably this unmet need.

2.4 billion people worldwide have health conditions that could benefit from rehabilitation. Prioritising #rehabilitation and growing the workforce is necessary to meet increasing global demand, say @sivanmanoj and @ProfNegrini bmj.com/content/384/bmj.q60?…

Now the Local Government Finance Settlement has been published, I'm going to write a mega-thread on the status of individual local authorities. 1. Havering Council is "on the brink" of a Section 114. It now receives less than £2 million, down from £70 million in 2010-11.

Health isn’t an individual medical issue; it's a social & political one. Hence, population health improves due to collective, not just individual agency, which, in turn, means health improvement requires community building, not signposting or linking of individuals to activities:

Relationship building with communities and people takes time and a concerted effort, a complete shift in culture definitely needs to occur
Public services in their current siloed, organisational not people focussed are fundamentally broken. Attempts like this to “manage” rather than remake relationships with citizens, patients, communities - shift resources to community, prevention & social care will Inevitably fail

Organisations can sometimes lose their soul. The signs? - Looking good matters more than being good - Leaders think they have all the answers - Sceptics are marginalised. - A fake narrative that nobody believes is all that’s allowed. - Leaders become arrogant & never apologise.

Great presentation from @CormacRussell. Statutory services can’t live people’s lives for them, funds need to get to the people who actually need it and people aren’t passive consumers of social care, but we tend to treat them as such @NWADASS

"For every £1 put into “upstream” NHS services with historically poor funding, including settings such as GPs’ surgeries and wider community treatment, there is a return of up to £14". The penny just hasn't dropped for politicians driven by short-termism newstatesman.com/spotlight/e…

This would really help with shifting the nhs culture across Lancashire when used alongside the local authority community paradigm @drandyknox @dr_sakthi @VernonLinda
What would a community-powered NHS look like? Our grid sets out the limits of traditional state & market paradigms that dominate health provision. A new #CommunityParadigm puts people at the heart of healthcare, centring communities, not services & people, not professionals.

Brilliant blog about the language and processes used in health and social care. This highlights the need to see people as skilled and experienced individuals and to work alongside them and their strengths and abilities rather than ‘process’ them.

Engaged communities bring vibrancy and innovation to their local areas. Too often, we ‘engage’ with our communities in a fragmented fashion, as a token gesture. But true transformation can occur when we take the time to listen, build relationships and actually engage
Community Power follows on from the ideas of Elinor Ostrom: ✅ Communities can manage their own resources ✋ Democracy is more meaningful at the local level 🧩 There are no ‘one size fits all’ solutions Explore what these insights mean for us today 👉🔎newlocal.org.uk/publications…

Really interesting article around working in social care and understanding the reasons why people join the social care workforce and why they also leave
New from me: Pretty Vacant: "The fundamental challenge we face now (in relation to 'social care') & which is growing is not one of ‘vacancies’ it’s one of ‘supply’. We need to think far more imaginatively, openly & laterally about how to address that." makingrightsmakesense.wordpr…

Pushing radical reform shouldn’t make you a rebel. It’s hard to challenge system leaders who resist change & dedicate themselves to clinging onto old forms of power. Seeing citizens as passive recipients of rationed services isn’t leadership #rebelalliance lgcplus.com/politics/lgc-bri…
