If you are involved in any way with SCMS, please read this thread. This is my final plea/call to action before this year’s conference. Long story short: we must demand a hybrid model — at bare minimum — to meet many of the ideological frameworks we claim to practice.

In 1959, Eugene Ionesco wrote the absurdist play Rhinoceros in which one by one, an entire town of people suddenly transform into rhinos. At first, people are horrified but as the contagion spreads, (almost) everyone comes to accept that turning into a rhinoceros is fine. 1/

Many thanks to whoever nominated me for a McGill SCS teaching award this year! I didn't win, but want to share this statement I wrote for the nomination, because it sums up a lot of how I feel about teaching right now. #PandemicPedagogy #edchat #HigherEd

Masking vs “returning to normal” is a false dichotomy. Protections like masks help keep society functioning. Ignoring COVID spread and dropping public health protections prevent us from ending the pandemic.

How do we reframe Covid so people no longer think of it as a mild convalescent cold? Reframing is urgent as people rack up reinfections. The virus persists, it continues to cause damage, & it will eventually lead to chronic illness and premature death. It has only been 2 years.

Friendly reminder: As the next surge rolls in, we aren’t going to hear about it. Data isn’t reliable, testing low, tons of cases aren’t reported, metrics were manipulated & data “recalculated” to present the illusion of dramatic improvement & normalcy. Protect yourselves.

Opinion | NATO isn't perfect. Yes, NATO bombed Libya destroying the wealthiest country on the African continent (including a targeted strike against Libya's irrigation system, destroying water access for 70% of the population living in the desert),

Some countries have already immunized their under 5 year olds without waiting on the mRNA vaccines, notably Cuba with their Soberana vaccine (traditional vaccine tech). If pfizer/moderna can’t deliver an effective vaccine for toddlers, can we take a look at the Soberana data?
