⚽🌎 Granville Street is ready for FIFA. I stopped by the new five-block pedestrian zone that will welcome residents and visitors throughout the FIFA World Cup. This is Vancouver at its best—a vibrant public space supporting local businesses, bringing people together, and showcasing our city to the world. 🎥 Watch my latest update from Granville Street. @FWC26Vancouver @CityofVancouver #FWC2026 #Vancouver

Keeping kids safe: School Liaison Officers play an important role in public safety by helping keep students safe and supporting healthy school communities. SLOs help prevent bullying and violence, build positive relationships between youth and police, assist schools in responding to threats, and play a critical role in gang prevention and early intervention. For many students, SLOs are trusted resources and mentors. For schools, they are an important bridge between educators, families, and law enforcement. Your ABC Vancouver team understands the importance of this work. That's why one of ABC's first actions in office was to fully restore the SLO program. Public safety starts early, and it's important that students, teachers, and families continue to have access to this program. ABC is the only party that supports fully funding the VPD, and we will always protect the Vancouver's School Liaison Officer program. #publicsafety #vancouver #abcvancouver

It was great to hear from Arcie Lim, the first Filipino Canadian elected to the International Council of the Knights of Columbus, and Clifford Belgica, long-standing President of the Philippine Nurses Association of British Columbia. Their stories reflect the leadership, service, and community spirit that have made such a positive impact across Vancouver and British Columbia. The Filipino community gives so much to our city, and your ABC Vancouver team remains committed to helping build safe, affordable, and thriving communities where all Vancouverites can flourish. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordablitily

Yesterday, ABC voted to keep Vancouver moving. While the non-ABC parties on Council wanted to lower speed limits on major arterial roads to 30 km/h and 40 km/h, ABC chose to stand with commuters and residents. Speed limits must be driven by common sense, not ideology. Let's keep Vancouver moving forward.

Mayor Ken Sim and ABC are focused on keeping Vancouver safe through a balanced, compassionate approach. Over the past three years, Vancouver has taken action where others would not: ✅ Did not renew the Seymour OPS lease after serious impacts on the surrounding neighbourhood. ✅ Fully funded VPD and all the 55 needed frontline mental health nurses when other levels of government were slow to act, resulting in the lowest violent crime rate in 23 years. ✅ Removed dangerous Hastings Street encampments that had been entrenched for years and restored access to sidewalks and public spaces. ✅ Successfully called on the Province to end its failed decriminalization policy and restore baseline public safety. ✅ Brought together mayors from across the region to call for mandatory care and better treatment options for those struggling. ✅ Endorsed Task Force Barrage in the Downtown Eastside, contributing to a 44% reduction in robberies, an 18% reduction in violent crime, and a 34% reduction in structural fires. ✅ Supported the establishment of a dedicated policing district for the Downtown Eastside and surrounding areas, ensuring greater focus and dedicated resources for the neighbourhood. ✅ Opened a new police training centre in the former Woodward's building, bringing approximately 300 law enforcement professionals into the neighbourhood every day and creating long-term structural change. ✅ Continued to push the Province to remove dangerous SROs from Granville Street that contribute to street disorder, crime, and unsafe living conditions for residents. We haven't gotten everything right, but Vancouver is moving in the right direction, and there is still more work to be done. We will continue to fight for mandatory care, meaningful expansions in treatment and recovery services, appropriate safeguards around OPS locations, and actions on some of the City’s most problematic SROs and supportive housing facilities. We can't afford to go back to the failures of previous administrations. Let's keep Vancouver moving forward. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordablitily

This past weekend, the brand new 10,000 seat Freedom Mobile Arch opened at the PNE. This truly world-class performance venue was made possible by Mayor @KenSimCity and ABC Vancouver's support for the ongoing renewal of Hastings Park. We're incredibly excited to see this venue become an iconic part of music and entertainment in Vancouver for generations to come. For Vancouver to be a vibrant and fun place to call home, we must be a city that is both affordable and safe. As we look forward, that will continue to be the focus of the ABC team.

Can confirm it’s absolutely spectacular- a beautiful new venue to enjoy concerts, music and more in the open air at the PNE. Kudos to everyone who worked on making this a reality, and I’m proud that our council was a strong supporter as well.
Replying to @iamkennethchan
There's no question the Freedom Mobile Arch, the new PNE amphitheatre, is a game-changing venue for Metro Vancouver's concerts and events scene. It also has a capacity range that fills a previous gap. #vanpoli #vanre 3/4 dailyhive.com/vancouver/free…

It was great to attend the Filipino Flag Raising Day celebration and join with members of Vancouver's vibrant Filipino community. We celebrated the achievements, resilience, and contributions of Filipino Canadians, whose hard work, leadership, and community spirit have helped shape Vancouver into the city it is today. Thank you to everyone who helped organize this special event and kick off a month-long celebration of Filipino culture, heritage, history, and contributions in Canada. The Filipino community gives so much to our city, and it was an honour to celebrate with you. Your ABC Vancouver team remains committed to helping build safe, affordable, and thriving communities where all Vancouverites can flourish. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordablitily @MikeKlassen @LisaDominato @sarahkirby_yung @LennyNanZhou

Councillor @PeterMeiszner had the opportunity to speak with David Kershaw, owner of the Cabana Lounge, about the risks of an OPS opening at 900 Helmcken. David spoke about the concern he has for Cabana’s younger staff, female staff, and customers. He also spoke of the challenges that come with placing these services in an area near concentrated nightlife and tourism activity. David’s livelihood has already been significantly impacted by the two previous OPS locations, and there is growing concern about the Province’s long-term plans for the neighbourhood. ABC stands with residents and businesses against the opening of the 900 Helmcken OPS. The ABC-led Council has voted to use every tool in the toolbox to stop this OPS and ensure the voices of Vancouverites are heard. #vanpoli #publicsafety #affordability

Four years ago, the Downtown Eastside was in a terrible state, with tents lining both sides of the street and high levels of violent crime. Your ABC Vancouver team has worked hard to make structural changes in the Downtown Eastside: protecting the most vulnerable residents of our community, holding criminals to account, and making Vancouver safer for everyone. It started with removing dangerous encampments, where large amounts of weapons, dangerous structures, and unsafe conditions were discovered. Building on that progress, Task Force Barrage brought increased police presence to the area, resulting in a 44% decline in robberies, an 18% decline in violent crime, and a 34% decline in structure fires. Task Force Barrage was so successful that the VPD established a dedicated police district for the Downtown Eastside and surrounding areas, ensuring the neighbourhood receives focused attention and support day in and day out. In addition, the opening of a new police training centre in the Woodward’s complex will bring a daily presence of VPD officers and officers-in-training to the neighbourhood. This brings long-term stability, renewed activity, and vibrancy back to the area. We know there is still more work to be done, but after decades of decline, we’re proud to see this heading in the right direction. We must keep moving forward.

This is why it’s so important that we stop the 900 Helmcken OPS. Mayor @KenSimCity had the opportunity to speak with Denise, the owner of a live-work hair salon directly across from the proposed OPS. Last week, she gave a powerful speech about how difficult it has been to live and run a business near the crime and disorder that has come from previous OPS locations. Denise spoke about how deeply her business has already been affected by these policies, and what the opening of this could mean for her future. These are the people that ABC is standing up for: hardworking Vancouverites who want a safe and affordable city to call home. We need action from the Province: We need a guarantee that this OPS will never open, and we need the full implementation of mandatory care that Premier Eby committed to nearly two years ago. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordability

Councillor @MikeKlassen caught up with Park Board Commissioner @JaspreetVirdi19 at ABC’s doorknocking event, where Jas shared some thoughts on what's at stake in this election. We can’t afford to go back to the chaos we saw under previous administrations. City Hall must stay focused on public safety and affordability, and we must keep moving Vancouver forward.

People like Christian deserve to see a future for themselves in Vancouver. Nobody should have to worry about affordability or encountering needles in parks. Vancouverites must be a city that is safe, affordable, and works for everyone. That is exactly what the ABC team is focused on delivering. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordability

Deputy Mayor @sarahkirby_yung had the chance to chat with ABC volunteer Mariko, who spoke about what it means to feel safe, welcomed, and included in Vancouver while out volunteering and connecting with residents. The ABC Vancouver team has always worked to reflect the full mosaic of this city: west to east, north to south, and every community and culture that makes Vancouver what it is. At the end of the day, we all want a safe city where you can walk to the store without fear, and an affordable city where families can continue to live and stay in the communities they call home. That’s what ABC Vancouver is focused on: keeping Vancouver safe, inclusive, and affordable for everyone. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordability

Earlier this week, Mayor Sim and the ABC team stood with local businesses and community members against the opening of an OPS at 900 Helmcken, calling for an end to years of failed Provincial policies on mental health and addictions. Your ABC team is working to make Vancouver a safer city. That starts with making sure the most vulnerable members of our community have access to appropriate treatment and care. While the Province has paused plans to open the OPS on June 1st, we will continue to stand with Vancouverites to ensure their voices are heard.
