This is a ridiculous suggestion. School Liaison Officers keep schools safe, full stop. @Vote4ABC will always support the SLO program. We are the only party in Vancouver that supports fully funding police services and we will not let activists put our kids in danger.
Advocates call for B.C.-wide ban on school liaison officer programs ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article…

Keeping kids safe: School Liaison Officers play an important role in public safety by helping keep students safe and supporting healthy school communities. SLOs help prevent bullying and violence, build positive relationships between youth and police, assist schools in responding to threats, and play a critical role in gang prevention and early intervention. For many students, SLOs are trusted resources and mentors. For schools, they are an important bridge between educators, families, and law enforcement. Your ABC Vancouver team understands the importance of this work. That's why one of ABC's first actions in office was to fully restore the SLO program. Public safety starts early, and it's important that students, teachers, and families continue to have access to this program. ABC is the only party that supports fully funding the VPD, and we will always protect the Vancouver's School Liaison Officer program. #publicsafety #vancouver #abcvancouver

Everyone in Vancouver is wearing the same jersey. This week, partners from all levels of government, the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, MLS, PavCo, and the club came together with one shared goal: securing the long-term future of the Whitecaps in Vancouver. We’re keeping the momentum going. Full statement below:

Yesterday, ABC voted to keep Vancouver moving. While the non-ABC parties on Council wanted to lower speed limits on major arterial roads to 30 km/h and 40 km/h, ABC chose to stand with commuters and residents. Speed limits must be driven by common sense, not ideology. Let's keep Vancouver moving forward.

This past weekend, the brand new 10,000 seat Freedom Mobile Arch opened at the PNE. This truly world-class performance venue was made possible by Mayor @KenSimCity and ABC Vancouver's support for the ongoing renewal of Hastings Park. We're incredibly excited to see this venue become an iconic part of music and entertainment in Vancouver for generations to come. For Vancouver to be a vibrant and fun place to call home, we must be a city that is both affordable and safe. As we look forward, that will continue to be the focus of the ABC team.

Four years ago, the Downtown Eastside was in a terrible state, with tents lining both sides of the street and high levels of violent crime. Your ABC Vancouver team has worked hard to make structural changes in the Downtown Eastside: protecting the most vulnerable residents of our community, holding criminals to account, and making Vancouver safer for everyone. It started with removing dangerous encampments, where large amounts of weapons, dangerous structures, and unsafe conditions were discovered. Building on that progress, Task Force Barrage brought increased police presence to the area, resulting in a 44% decline in robberies, an 18% decline in violent crime, and a 34% decline in structure fires. Task Force Barrage was so successful that the VPD established a dedicated police district for the Downtown Eastside and surrounding areas, ensuring the neighbourhood receives focused attention and support day in and day out. In addition, the opening of a new police training centre in the Woodward’s complex will bring a daily presence of VPD officers and officers-in-training to the neighbourhood. This brings long-term stability, renewed activity, and vibrancy back to the area. We know there is still more work to be done, but after decades of decline, we’re proud to see this heading in the right direction. We must keep moving forward.

This is why it’s so important that we stop the 900 Helmcken OPS. I had the opportunity to speak with Denise, the owner of a live-work hair salon directly across from the proposed OPS. Last week, she gave a powerful speech about how difficult it has been to live and run a business near the crime and disorder that has come from previous OPS locations. Denise spoke about how deeply her business has already been affected by these policies, and what the opening of this could mean for her future. These are the people that ABC is standing up for: hardworking Vancouverites who want a safe and affordable city to call home. We need action from the Province: We need a guarantee that this OPS will never open, and we need the full implementation of mandatory care that Premier Eby committed to nearly two years ago. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordability

Councillor @MikeKlassen caught up with Park Board Commissioner @JaspreetVirdi19 at ABC’s doorknocking event, where Jas shared some thoughts on what's at stake in this election. We can’t afford to go back to the chaos we saw under previous administrations. City Hall must stay focused on public safety and affordability, and we must keep moving Vancouver forward.

People like Christian deserve to see a future for themselves in Vancouver. Nobody should have to worry about affordability or encountering needles in parks. Deputy Mayor @sarahkirby_yung had the chance to chat with ABC volunteer Mariko, who spoke about what it means to feel safe, welcomed, and included in Vancouver while out volunteering and connecting with residents. The ABC Vancouver team has always worked to reflect the full mosaic of this city: west to east, north to south, and every community and culture that makes Vancouver what it is. At the end of the day, we all want a safe city where you can walk to the store without fear, and an affordable city where families can continue to live and stay in the communities they call home. That’s what ABC Vancouver is focused on: keeping Vancouver safe, inclusive, and affordable for everyone. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordability

This pool will be a game changer for families South Van! This is just one of the ways we're getting our city back to community: investing in high quality facilities that Vancouverites deserve. #publicsafety #affordability #backtocommunity
ABC Vancouver is delivering a new pool for South Vancouver! The ABC-led Vancouver City Council has identified delivering a 25 metre pool at Sunset Park as a priority for the upcoming capital plan. This is a big win for the community members who have fought for so long to bring an outdoor pool to South Van and builds on the success of the recently-opened Sunset Seniors Centre. This is just one of the many ways that ABC is getting Vancouver back to community. We're also working to make beginner swimming lessons free and are investing $400M to replace five aging community centres to create a better future for families, youth, and seniors. #abcvancouver #backtocommunity #publicsafety #affordability

Great meeting with Minister of Sport Adam van Koeverden. Lovely to hear the positive feedback he’s receiving on Vancouver’s preparations to host the FIFA World Cup, and we appreciate the federal government’s recent investments in public safety funding for the tournament. We spoke about strengthening Vancouver’s reputation as a leading sport hosting city and the opportunities that come with it in the future. We were also excited to discuss our new motion Carrying on Joe Fortes' Legacy to increase aquatic access for more families. By expanding swimming lesson access and including new pool investments in the upcoming capital plan, we reinforce our shared commitment to swimming as a life safety skill. @vankayak @LisaDominato @sarahkirby_yung

Incredibly appreciative of all our hard-working BC MPs and the advocacy they bring to Ottawa every single day on behalf of communities across our province. Grateful they were able to make time for meetings with Team Vancouver as we continue advocating for the issues that matter most to Vancouverites: more housing, affordability, and stronger public safety. Working together to deliver real results for our city and region.

Great meeting with Minister of Transport Steve MacKinnon. The Port of Vancouver is Canada's economic engine. It moves more cargo than the next five Canadian ports combined and connects this country to over 170 markets around the world. With Canada's commitment to double non-US trade, the Port is going to play an outsized role in our future. Vancouver is ready to be the federal government's partner in unlocking every bit of that potential. We know Vancouverites support doubling non-US trade and our transportation and logistics expertise will ensure that goods and resources made in Canada have a world class Port here in Vancouver. Grateful the Minister is ready to work with us.

Good meeting today with Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree. We spoke about the urgent public safety challenges facing Vancouver, especially in the Downtown Eastside. There is a need for all levels of government to work together on real solutions. From repeat violent offenders and street disorder to the pressures facing frontline responders and local businesses, cities cannot tackle these issues alone. Vancouver is stepping up with investments in policing, community safety, and coordinated enforcement, but lasting progress requires strong partnerships between municipal, provincial, and federal governments. Appreciate the Minister’s willingness to collaborate and focus on practical action with forward thinking that makes our communities safer for everyone.
