News moves fast—Warner says he could supportive of a short-term extension *if* the Senate-confirmed No. 2 leader of DNI, Aaron Lukas, is the acting director instead of Pulte for the duration.
Some Dems are warm to the idea of a short-term extension of FISA as the president looks to nominate a permanent director of DNI:
Schatz (who's in leadership): "I'd be open to it. I want to understand what the context of the negotiation is." Says he still needs to talk to Intel ranking member Mark Warner, but says "notionally, we're headed in the right direction."
Shaheen: "Depends on who the nominee is."
Others, not so much. Many of them are demanding Bill Pulte to be pulled as acting director before they'd support a short-term extension.
Kelly: "Take him out, and then we can renew FISA... He shouldn't be doing this. He's not qualified."
Warner wouldn't answer qs on whether he'd support a short-term extension, but says he still has "huge concerns of Bill Pulte getting the keys to these 18 agencies."
