Who'd start their first company in a country they’d never visited to solve an unsexy climate problem that nobody ever thinks about? @louispotok, that's who. Inspired by his audacity, I flew to SE Asia to visit and write his story. Read it now (link in🧵)

I give tamarillo 1/10, jack fruit and mulberry 10/10. @rabbit_hmi’s ability to identify any of them is 0/10. Thanks @internet_pipes @stephsmithio for letting me to try so many new fruits and @MikeWigmore for letting me try your pokedex!

Gather 'round children, it's time to learn the story of the ozone hole Last year on a lark, I flew to visit @recoolit in Jakarta to see their climate tech ambitions in action. That trip kickstarted my most ambitious writing yet. The first part is out now, on @every (link in 🧵)

The new @SpotifyUSA AI is shockingly good, starting to become my default listening experience now. I wish I could talk with it though: tell it I want a workout mix right now, focus music, something fresh, etc

We learn best when doing what we love. I love to eat. Last month, my husband & our friend Jon, launched their second annual "Cheff's Table" where they cook tasting menus that educate through food.

An extremely well written and comprehensive look at the carbon removal industry. Highly recommend giving it a read if you’re interested in the space!

I just learned about AutoGPT this morning @cerebralvalley_ hackathon and was blown away by its capabilities
AutoGPT takes the idea "a problem well stated is a problem half solved" to a whole new level

“I’m a [product manager, lawyer, engineer, etc.] and I want to transition to climate work. Where should I look?” I get a version of this question a lot. This note summarizes how I usually answer it in case it’s useful for others asking a similar question: nanransohoff.substack.com/p/…

Great explainer by @hankgreen on what all is in the IRA: youtu.be/qw5zzrOpo2s the conclusion got me feeling a bit more hopeful about climate again

Who are your creator role models? In this letter to @wang, I share whose styles I try to copy, and talk about seeing things that aren’t there. medium.com/the-w-letters/14-…

What's the closest thing to real magic? (Don't say "sufficiently advanced technology") In this letter of the ongoing W Letter series, I explore this question and romanticize freezing my butt off for 50% of my childhood: medium.com/the-w-letters/13-…

I've worked in software development for over 20 years, and most of my career has been in management. I want to share something about the reality of working as a Black man fulfilling leadership roles in tech.

Another example of mission critical infrastructure to get right: picking a podcast hosting platform Apple, Spotify, and Google podcasts all don't give you option to change the rss provider you use so you'll be tied in for life to wherever you host

Day 1 of using netlify: wow this is so magical and easy! Day before launch: deploys repeatedly inexplicably breaking, only fix being deleting app and pushing “new” app Learned the hard way to not depend on magic for critical infrastructure, especially ones you can't move off

I'll hand it to netlify, their cms and lambda functions are really easy and great to use. But it makes it extremely hard to move off of them. Good moat for them, bad for user dependence

When complexity gets overwhelming, externalize and decompose. Break what's hard to wrap your head around into smaller pieces and analyze each separately. Write all your thoughts down. Surprising the difference it makes
