Bacterial Leaf Streak sighted in Buffalo County. I’m guessing with the heavy winds and hail accompanying storms recently this will be a common sight this year. #ScoutNebraska #corn #BLS

Another omega block will play a role in the upcoming early summer pattern. A strong high pressure system stuck in place will present drier risks in the midwest, with the active jet stream suppressed to the South. The general speed of the jet stream is heightened by El Nino, pushing that high slightly East versus letting it set up in the North Central US like past analog years.

Yes seeing lots of this. The season has been hard on planters.
Get out and check your planting depth... even if your fields look good. Seeing tens of thousands of acres of shallow planted corn and soybeans this spring. Many corn fields that look excellent have seed that is 1.5" or less below the soil surface. This will impact root development and most likely yield. Spend some time in your fields: 1) Try to determine what the cause is to prevent again in 2027 2) Set realistic yield expectations. 3) Determine if possible to do some row crop cultivating to move soil along the plant to allow nodal roots to develop closer to normal (this is hit or miss). Contact your local Pioneer Sales Representative with questions or assistance.

This small corn plant is already at V5. It is less than 16 inches tall. I am concerned that a lot of people could end up spraying herbicides at the wrong stages this year. Double check leaves and collars. Don’t just use height.

Soybean Crop Response to PPO herbicides. With many soybeans emerging in NE IA and recent rainfall being the 1st "activating" rains on many of the herbicide applications containing PPO herbicides (Valor or Authority based), many fields have tough looking soybeans. This "burn" that is taking place typically does not result in plant death and in most cases the plant recovers well. Studies show anywhere from no to small impacts on yields. Regardless, this is the small price to pay for the value these herbicides bring for weed control in soybeans, not to mention the importance of herbicide rotation in resistance management. Look for new growth that looks "normal" as signs the plant is recovering. With the warm sunny weather coming over the next 10 days, by June 1st this will likely be water under the bridge. Contact your local Pioneer Sales Rep with questions.
