I never saw myself working at a major label, but today was my first day on the product team at @Warnermusic. My good people of the web3 music world: please don’t hesitate to reach out. My handle hasn’t changed ✨

direct to fan is over hyped this, streaming makes more revenue that in 1999 i spent $16.99 on at LEAST 3 of these because i kept scratching them

Cat's out of the bag, this is me and my awesome team. Platforms designed for mass consumption present fundamental challenges for artists. Even the best intentions will come second place to the bottom line. Excited to flip the model on it's head.

Warner is building a superfan app. It will be cross-platform, connect artists fans directly & probably monetize the hell out em. "I firmly believe in the power of a superfan" - Robert Kyncl, Warner CEO Here's what he has to say about it: "I've assembled a team of incredible technology talent who are working on an app where artists can connect directly with their superfans...and we're focused on making sure that artists get data on these superfans." I thought this was the most interesting piece: "Artists want to work with every single platform...they don't want to optimize just for one platform over another. So a solution like this for superfans has to be a cross-platform solution." Platformless is smart. They may attempt to get around platform exclusivity by offering the same superfan add-ons wherever you stream. We shall see. The app rolls out later this year.

Rapture by Blondie, but the vocals are @Grimezsz AI, and the music is made by me, with samples from strangers and instruments someone else made on a computer. We live in a society on.soundcloud.com/omrqc8U8po…

Finally got around to trying Audius as an artist. Not sure if I love or hate that I can earn money from music with samples I can't clear... but anyway please enjoy my remixes 👍 audius.co/web3ri

I am actually kinda stressed that ppl r starting to make competitively (or maybe better??) quality grimes sounding songs than I do but it's also the most wonderfully poetic way to die and respawn in another career

The challenge is licensing and royalty distribution 1) at scale and 2) cross platform. The good news? Everyone wants free money and free promotion, and they know UGC can be great at both. It's not going to be the hard sell it would have been in 2014.

AI will bail out Web3 by giving it a big problem its uniquely suited to solve.

This is why I’m optimistic for AI and the future of music. If copy cats go from a dime to a penny a dozen, there’s even more incentive for some originality to shine through

Things like synths, samples, beat machines made music sound more diverse and original — not less.

When anyone can generate a top 40 track….the major gains will come from tools for smarter production and the crop of new producers (with good ears) that can harness them
