I keep seeing this factoid, anyone figure out if it’s actually true?
Like how do we quantify it, bc from a quick google most lizards (approx 7k species) and crocodilians (like 40) males are bigger than females, but most snakes (around 4k) and testudines (200) females are bigger.
Females are (usually) larger and stronger in reptiles and arachnids. They are (usually) smaller in mammals and birds.
So if dragons are reptiles, it's plausible that the females are bigger.

In a vacuum it shouldn’t be, but in art that invokes the factoid I see females being presented as being more muscular, aggressive and socially dominant rather than just, ‘bigger’ that feels more ‘female hyena’ where that’s actually true. not sure it is for lizards and turtles.

Also to be clear I love me bigger and stronger females/ smaller males (to the point where I have an entire spec evo project that revolves around that being a thing lmao) just not sure if the ‘most reptiles have bigger proportionally stronger females’ idea is accurate.

But obviously there’s exceptions in both lizards and snakes, such as some rat snakes having bigger males and 2/3 species of leopard lizard Having bigger females.
