Australia and Turkey will face off tonight in Vancouver’s first FIFA World Cup match at B.C. Place. With game-day road closures in effect around BC Place and large crowds expected downtown, we encourage fans and visitors to take transit whenever possible. Fan marches will also be taking place downtown this evening, with the first beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the last around 6 p.m. These events are expected to draw thousands of supporters and may cause additional congestion in the downtown core. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time. #FIFAWorldCup2026Vancouver

#FIFAWorldCup2026Vancouver: If you’re planning to fly a drone in Vancouver during FIFA, you can expect airspace restrictions around stadiums, fan zones, and event sites. Drones of any size are not permitted within designated no-fly zones around venues, such as B.C. Place, the PNE, Killarney Park, and UBC. Penalties can include significant fines, the seizure of your drone, and criminal charges. Learn more about drone regulations and safety: VPD.ca/drones

The summer weather has started to arrive, and with it comes an important reminder not to leave children or pets in the car ☀️ Even on what feels like a mild day, the temperature inside a parked car can rise quickly to dangerous levels. Cracking a window or parking in the shade is not enough to keep a vehicle safe.

#VPDNews Charges against the accused in a West End vehicle‑ramming incident last month have been upgraded to murder. The accused, Tadd Bali, is now facing one count each of second-degree murder and attempted murder, as well as two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. The upgraded charges follow the death of the wheelchair‑bound senior who was struck by Bali and later died in hospital on May 24. Bali was initially charged with four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm after he allegedly drove on the sidewalk intentionally near Broughton and Comox Street. The Jeep he was driving struck the senior in the wheelchair and later hit a police car responding to the incident. Two police officers were injured but were released from hospital the same day. Bali remains in custody.
