Real Talk 🎙️ About Being Trans 🏳️‍⚧️ I’m absolutely tired of all the anti-trans BS over the years. Do you think I like being trans? I don’t, I honestly hate it. But it’s who I am. I’ve even prayed countless times throughout most of my life for God to make me a “real” girl. Seriously, why would anyone willing go through all the consent haressment, hardships, limited opportunities, bullying, targeted legislation against us, expenses, medical transition, and threats to our own safety if it wasn’t absolutely necessary for us to be our real selves? Coming out as a trans woman and transitioning has cost me so many relationships. It cost me my little sister, friends (including a previous best friend who I was the “Best Man” at his wedding before I came out), other relatives, and caused enormous damage to the relationship I had with my own parents. I’ve known I wasn’t meant to be a boy since I was a small child, well before I knew what transgender even was. I felt like a freak and felt alone in the world for it. I didn’t know there was anything I could do about it till I was 16 years and saw an episode of Law & Order, which featured trans characters (not in a good way), but I was so happy to find out I wasn’t alone or a freak and that there were other people like me. I then got the courage and came out to my parents. They threatened to disown, as well as kick me out if I publicly came out. This was soul crushing as a 16 year to find out my parents love was conditional. Their threat also kept me in the closet for many more years. Funny enough I was still voted “Most likely to show up to my High School’s 10th reunion in a dress”. When I went to college I tried to meet my parents half way and just came as gay. They still weren’t pleased, but didn’t disown me. Being out as gay helped a little bit, but still didn’t fulfill how I actually felt. I even broke up with a boyfriend after I found out his views on trans people. Towards the end of college in 2015 when I was set to graduate and already had a job lined up I finally came out publicly as trans. After 3 months of living like a woman my doctor agreed to prescribe me HRT (was a requirement back then for many medical professionals). Even though this process cost me many things I was happy with my life and finally was able to be who I really was. Over the last decade of being out there have been ups and downs. Including an unfortunately period of about a 2 1/2-3 years where I medically detransitioned. Which, only made me feel worse. I knew I couldn’t live life that way, and started transitioning again. I’m much happier after restarting and I will never detransition again! Myself and other trans people just want to be ourselves. Transitioning already brings enough hardships to our lives, which is why I’m sharing my story, and begging you all to please not go out of your way to make our lives even harder than it already is. 🙏
