On January 21st, Ecojustice lawyers, on behalf of Wildsight, Wilderness Committee, and Stand.earth, sent a letter calling on federal government to comply with its legal obligations to protect endangered mountain caribou herds.

Winter solstice has big impacts in the wild. ‘Photoperiod’ is the scientific name for the change of day length, and it affects everything from when plants flower to when animals molt, mate, migrate, and hibernate. We hope that you have a wonderful very short day this solstice!

A fertilized embryo will only implant in a female grizzly's uterus if her fat reserves are sufficient to sustain her and developing fetuses throughout winter hibernation! This means a female grizzly can essentially biologically choose whether to become pregnant or not. Amazing!

Resource roads can impede the life requirements of species like bull trout. Roads cross streams which means water is diverted through culverts or under bridges. These culverts regularly result in a major loss of suitable habitat as they block or restrict bull trout movements.
