Listening to no age in the lightly perfumed, slightly dissociative mall of henry hβs train lot on the west side, feeling the joyous urge to bouncily smash things, escaping to the friendly embrace of a city bus.
Honestly, settler colonialism as Iβve understood it is actually too gentle a frame for this. Itβs straight up home invasion, and letβs be direct here, ethnic cleansing. Itβs a crime and an insult to the memories of those lost in whose name itβs been perpetrated.
Whatβs happening today in Sheikh Jarrah and elsewhere is violent dispossession and expulsion, executed with military and police force. The entire history of Israel is rife with these acts; the erasure of Palestinian presence is fundamental to the construction of Israeli space.
Just to be clear, by no means am I saying settler colonialism is βgentleβ. Itβs just that the mechanisms and time scale are different; settler colonialism as such, historically (and currently) seems to be a more gradual process of displacement through systemic shifts.
