Who is the best mentor and leader you’ve ever learned from? x.com/diegozaks/status/20644…

Design at Ramp looks very different than it did a year ago but a few core things have not changed; the role of design is to distill problems to their essence, obsess over craft and delight where it matters most, know customers deeply and advocate for them, lead with creativity and storytelling, and keep it fun, because a product built with joy always wins. I'm looking for a Director of Product Design to lead some of our highest-priority bets. This role is for you if you’re excited by: Leading through craft, setting vision and unlocking customer impact: you will define where a product should go, then jump into the details with the team to unblock, teach, and ship. You raise the bar through product judgment, design craft, and your ability to make everyone around you better. Actually shipping and demonstrating real impact: You'll start by owning a product area and team to build trust and get your bearings at Ramp, with room to take on broader leadership over time. You'll stay close to customers and ship meaningful work alongside your designers, product managers and engineers. Building the environment where great work comes from: clear roles, high standards, low ego, and just enough structure to keep the bar high without slowing people down. That means building a caring yet demanding structure, investing deeply in people — coaching, feedback, growth — so designers can do the best work of their careers and develop in this new age of Design. It’s never been a more interesting time to build. Link below.

This is my favorite line from my talk...so far: The output of creativity is not the artifacts you make along the way. The output is the understanding you gained while making them.

I don't use AI to write my talks, but this is one of my favorite ways to use AI to make my talks better: 1. Write talk script 2. Tell AI to condense it to the 4 most important things 3. See if those 4 things matched the 4 things I intended to be the most important

When you shorten the creative loop you raise the ceiling for creativity.
Everyone's talking about AI-generated HTML. But have you tried giving your sites a zero-config API for saving data, file storage, AI, websockets, etc? We did this at Shopify. Runs on a single VM that costs $200/month, and it's changed the way we work. We call it Quick 👇🧵

This is still my favorite tweet of all time.
Good idea generator: 1. Have any idea 2. Pursue it 3. Build something that makes it easier to achieve 4. #3 is your good idea

Designer Fund I've been thinking about this lately, this year marks 17 years of me designing logos & making money on the internet. It took me over 6 months to earn my first $200. I never had a mentor or anyone to help me when I needed it, so I want to change that. I want to give back to the designer community in the form of money or my time. You share your story, and if selected you get to talk to me or get paid to help you grow as a designer, no strings attached. I'll be personally funding $5 K-$10K (maybe more) into the design fund pool. If anyone wants to be part of the fund or share their time feel free to reach out over DMs (I will be selective). Money can be used to buy your first desk, mac mini, ticket to an event, learn design, pay for Claude, buy food, rent or anything - it's yours! The fund will strictly focus on beginners & new agency owners, but if you have a unique story and need help, anyone can be considered. There's no landing page or start date, this post is to make myself accountable and actually do it, so it doesn't just live in my head.

Distribution is the ability to get attention at will. Because everyone’s attention has already been claimed, distribution is stolen, not created.

I think my choice in career and choice in wife were more aligned than I realized...
In my day we didn't need "/grill-me", we would hire a 24 year old designer, loosely describe the feature, ask them to imagine the user interface and draw it for us, then come to a shared understanding by roasting the shit out of the designs in an hours long humiliation ritual
