We have some big product announcements today. It's an uber exciting moment for us and the features are phenomenal.
But instead of boring you with another quote tweet, I wanted to share some of the product stories behind TrueNorth — the sweat and tears my co-founder
@WillyChuang and I went through along the way, and why we're here today. So without further ado, let's go down memory lane.
The first dip — we were at the peak of the meme cycle. GMGN and other meme trading products were taking off. We thought: why not use AI to recommend memes, maybe even surface alpha? Sounds simple enough. The problem is that meme trading is fundamentally sentiment-driven and cabal-like — the vast majority of on-chain and off-chain signals are statistically meaningless. Sure, people are happy to gamble, but there's no real place for AI here. It doesn't fit the user journey, and it spits out useless confluences no better than noise. And "providing alpha" is an oxymoron anyway — there's no free lunch. So there you have it. We all know how memes ended up.
The pivot — AI was getting better. Notably, with good data it can make shit up without you noticing. Research-based AI products were popping up everywhere, and we thought — hey, why don't we do this too? Aside from never quite cracking the right UI, we also chose mobile as the form factor — huge mistake, by the way, completely missing what our target audience needed. And here's the punchline: after launch, we learned that users don't want to do research. Let's be honest, no one does. People do it to feel smart. In crypto there are almost zero fundamentals to research, so why waste time synthesizing information just to feel better — the price action already covers everything you need to care about.
Another pivot — we all know products should serve the user journey. Easier said than done. We talked to hundreds of traders and finally converged on one humbling fact: no one cares about fancy AI gimmicks. Natural-language token buys, auto-generated strategies — none of it beats the simple utility of helping a trader accurately draw support and resistance, layer the confluences, and make a discretionary call. Accepting that humbling fact and building deep into it brought us our first wave of PMF. Users loved the product. Retention and usage time blew past comps.
But that's not enough. We know too well that a trader's full life cycle is long, and very soon traders will be delegating a swarm of Agents to trade with higher capital efficiency. Which brings us to today's release. The logic is consistent: AI is symbiotic with our user's trading journey. From daily scans that narrow a universe of tradables down to a handful, to one-click setup analysis and execution, to deploying Agents that monitor your open positions and run risk control on your behalf. And it helps you become a better trader — TrueNorth sits with you to revisit your trades, objectively dissect your strengths and weaknesses, so your skill compounds alongside an AI that's personalized and evolving with you.
I started building TrueNorth because this is the moment I've been waiting for my entire life. There has never been a time where my background across AI, consulting, investment, trading, quant, and operating startups gave me this much breadth and depth to build something truly wonderful with an absurdly talented team. Today I'm honored to share it with you. Please enjoy the new TrueNorth. Happy trading.
