The Ford government's $750 classroom gift card gimmick was insulting and admits that our schools are underfunded. Asking teachers to buy classroom supplies is like asking nurses to shop for medical supplies before work because the hospital can't provide them. Now we learn that $300 of the promised $750 isn't even new funding - it's being taken from existing education dollars. That's not an investment in public education. It's a shell game. Ontario students and educators deserve properly funded classrooms, not government announcements that sound bigger than they really are. #onpoli #onted thestar.com/politics/provinc…

A 24-year-old Polish tennis player arrived in Paris last week ranked 114th in the world, with no sponsors, no guaranteed income, and no certainty she could even pay for her hotel room. She had to win three qualifying matches just to enter the French Open main draw. Prize money is only paid at the end of the tournament, so a Polish sports drink brand quietly stepped in and covered her hotel bill. Her name is Maja Chwalinska. And today, she plays in the French Open final. Before this tournament, she had won exactly one Grand Slam main draw match in her entire career. She had battled depression so severe that in 2021 she couldn't get out of bed. She underwent knee surgery in 2022. She spent years grinding through small tournaments across Europe just to stay afloat. Then she arrived in Paris, won three qualifiers, and kept winning. Zheng Qinwen. Elise Mertens. Maria Sakkari. Diana Shnaider. Nine straight matches. One set dropped. She is now the first qualifier in French Open history to reach the final. The last time a qualifier reached a Grand Slam final, it was Emma Raducanu at the 2021 US Open. Raducanu won. By simply making the final, Chwalinska has earned more prize money than her entire career combined. The runner-up cheque alone is $1.6 million. If she wins today, she takes home $3.25 million. One week ago she couldn't pay for her hotel room.

Not surprising. @TrafficServices should set up there regularly and ticket, ticket, and ticket. Tickets (especially with demerit points - as a 20km/h over includes) will change behaviors.

Fun Fact: In the House of Commons, cleaning staff (and all other Parliamentary employees, contractors, and volunteers) are required to undergo and clear a strict security screening process before they can work in the Parliamentary Precinct. But not @PierrePoilievre #cdnpoli

LISTEN UP ONTARIO: Something big is happening in Ontario, and almost no one is talking about it. Premier Ford has quietly passed a law that opens the door to water privatization across Ontario - and he's hoping you won't notice. The Water and Wastewater Public Corporations Act lets the government seize your local water system and hand it over to a for-profit corporation without your consent. History is clear: when for-profit corporations control our water systems, the results are disastrous: Bigger bills! Bad service! Dirty water! Water is a human right not a commodity. It's not too late to stop this. & Tell Premier Ford our water is NOT for sale. Take action now!

In front of cameras, Doug likes to portray himself as folksy with his lame shtick & stunts. But behind the cameras, when people stand up to him like MPP Will Bouma did or reporters like Tina who holds him to account, well they get fired.

The Ontario legislature is expected to rise today after seven weeks. MPPs have spent just 29 days introducing, debating and passing legislation. Queen’s Park is now widely expected to take an extended summer break - with 5 planned sitting weeks to be erased. #onpoli

Today I asked the Premier a simple question about the cost-of-living crisis facing Ontarians. Instead of answering, Premier Ford chose insults and to lie about my voting record. Ontarians don't care about name-calling. They want answers. They want to know why groceries, rent, and everyday essentials keep getting more expensive while this government dodges accountability. I’ll keep asking the questions. The Premier should start answering them. #onpoli

So again we are playing the game of "some cameras are good, some cameras are bad" We know that Ford only banned speed cameras because his colleagues staff kept getting caught speeding. Let municipalities make those decisions with police, not pontificating from Queens Park.

Wake up time. The problem in Toronto isn't EMS being delayed by bike lanes. The problem is when EMS arrives there isn't an ER bed to offload. So the patient and crew remain in the foyer or hall and nothing happens. We underfund our hospitals and we focus on the wrong problem.
