Belief: All kids, regardless of their rdg level- below or above “benchmark”—deserve rich literacy experiences— opportunities to be read to, experience great books in company of others, and the joy of talking abt them. Regardless of whether this directly improves level.

How often do you ask kids the question, “Does anyone know what X is?”
Be aware of questioning like this (we ALL do it). First, we have to be kind to ourselves about it.
Then, instead, TEACH kids “what X is.” Avoid guessing games, mind reading & quizzing in lieu of teaching.

Saying it again!
Minilessons are meant for approximation not mastery. If all students master the ML, it was too easy. Spend a proportionate amount of time planning a ML in correlation to the amount of time it takes to teach it.
