One of my favorite things about mountain life is the cooler weather especially during the summer months.
It’s roughly 10 degrees cooler up here in the hills compared to our home in Cary. That’s a big difference in the sizzling summer months of June, July and August.

Throwback Thursday to 2006 when I was much younger and the Carolina Hurricanes were savoring their Stanley Cup! I love our chances this year with the team’s tenacious defense and overpowering offense. What a great victory last night in Montreal!

One year ago Cindy and I were in Scotland. The Isle of Lewis is one of the wildest places you can imagine. It is a place of “bleak beauty.” The visit inspired me to write this song called “Hebrides.” I hope you like it.

May in the mountains is heavenly. Everything starts blooming from rhododendron to flame azaleas and mountain laurel.
Early mornings echo with the sound of birdsong coming in from exotic places.
And there’s nothing sweeter than the fresh garment of green on hillsides.

I never know exactly how a sunrise will evolve over Glade Valley in western North Carolina. Today’s sunrise began with muted tones and little fanfare. Then suddenly the sun broke through the crevices of thick clouds, creating a canvas of remarkable beauty at precisely 6:35.

Our screened porch in Cary is finally purged of pollen. It’s a Mother’s Day gift to Cindy. We do it every year. We cut down on the usual scrubbing this year by using our Dyson vacuum which collected the pollen like a powerful magnet.
