I'm really grateful to have had an opportunity to write this. THIS is what a lot of us in local news deal with behind the scenes. I hope folks can better understand what this is like to live through.

"Used to protecting themselves from racist critiques, they’ve overcorrected, deflecting reasonable questions from the people they once uplifted...None of these men has been meaningfully canceled..." A thought-provoking read from @elamin88 @BuzzFeedNews buzzfeednews.com/article/ela…

What a privilege for founder/exec director @write_this_way to keynote #JACC2022 at @csuf. Look in more than just the "usual" spaces and you see all kinds of hope for journalism in LA and beyond!

"Am I allowed to do this? Is this the right thing? Am I a traitor to the race?" On the latest episode of @Slate's How To! podcast, @karynfolan said what I've been thinking about for months in our convo with @HeleneBiandudi. 1/3

I took a step back to reflect on our talk and @afrolanews’s early critics. "My critics are right. Yes, I’m an “outsider.” But, perhaps if THEY widen THEIR lens to understand AfroLA, they might understand that I’m new, but...interested in collaboration, not takeover." 2/3

I had the opportunity to be a part of @NewmarkJPlus's #EJCP4 cohort. While in the program, I announced the arrival of @afrolanews in early 2023. Here's the first Medium post of a new online journal chronicling how AfroLA is built, by and for Black L.A. medium.com/@afrolanews/los-a…

#EJCP4 introduced me to dozens of wonderful journalism creators and entrepreneurs from around the world. It was empowering to know I wasn't alone in this work and how pervasive it is. Check out some of what they're doing here: medium.com/journalism-innova…
My @NewAmerica piece on COVID exposure apps was picked up by @Slate. I'm thrilled to be able to share accountability reporting on #PublicInterestTech more widely. Read it here: slate.com/technology/2022/08…
More than half of Black, Indigenous, and Latinx workers have jobs that must be done in person, compared with 41% of white workers, writes @write_this_way. urbn.is/3KAVfcj

I was really thrilled to write this freelance piece for @NewAmerica. Accountability for how #PublicInterestTech tools serve people and who they ultimately serve is key to ensuring accessibility and equity, especially for the most vulnerable groups.
📱 During the pandemic, #PublicInterestTech tools, like COVID exposure apps, were created. Were they worth the effort? Dana Amihere (@write_this_way) weighs in on these tools, with a focus on California's robust portfolio of software. newamerica.org/pit/briefs/th…

I'm not one for posting personal opinions online, esp. about controversial topics. But, this account from a friend broke me. Children's lives matter, yes. But, women aren't just incubators for breeding. The lives of mothers –– their mental and physical well-being –– matter, too.
Last year on this day, I was 6 weeks pregnant and had to go to the ER because a panic attack led to me bleeding out for 4 days straight. The pregnancy was plummeting my mental & physical health. If I didn't get an abortion, I could've died.

One of my spring 2021 @ucbsoj students got published! Not only can she write -- about a very important ban affecting her part of the world and, ultimately, all of us -- she's a boss illustrator too! Congrats on the byline @s_oberpriller. You make your prof proud.
Plastic bottles, straws, coffee cups and takeaway containers are all made up of the single-use plastics being banned in the EU this week. Plus, period products, wet wipes and tobacco will need to have warning labels. But will all member states agree? 👇 euronews.com/green/2021/07/0…
