as I have said before, states like Florida need to enact laws that mandate the opposite of such CA/NY/MA laws so that the later aren't effectively federalized

OFFICIALLY SIGNED: New York just banned online sales of CNC machines, lathes, and 3D printers. Required surveillance software on every one. And there's a bill in committee to require a background check to buy them at all. Look around you at who didn't fight, or who ONLY appeared to fight once they saw my video views pouring in. 🤔 Video soon!

my hatred of dealing with contractors has now been exceeded by my hatred of doing tile work. Never again.

In France, the baguette is price controlled, in Italy the espresso is cheap, in Germany the beer purity is protected by a 500 year old law… and in America, Costco keeps the hot dog at $1.50 under threat of death.

they are spamming publications and using co-author credits as currency; this is grade inflation for CV and currency devaluation for grant funding. the screeching is their ego self preservation on being called out
Replying to @eiszett
Have you read all the sources you ever cited? During my PhD we, along with dozens of other papers, cited a paper that I later found did not contain the result for which it was commonly cited. I should be banned I guess.

i have fallen down a vintage computing rabbit hole, and while (in my case) it's fairly retarded, it does sure bring back memories

it's endemic at jobs that bill hourly, because inefficiency kills slowly and is industry wide, so you just make everything terrible, push it into stock valuations, and jump out with your golden parachute

the boss should get to push a change notice or material transfer thru this SAAS bullshit that hasn't been updated since 2007 or alternatively gets updated every six months with no regard for employee friction

regarding the appification of everything, with stupid accounts for everything at work and for your kid's school and your doctor's office and.. and... I want their to be a law that every leader responsible for implementing these systems must be recorded using them once a year

there are going to be so many Lego tchotchkes thrown away by social service workers when their owners get moved into a nursing home in 40 years
First look at the new LEGO Lord of the Rings set - Minas Tirith. Will cost $649.99.

This might be the coolest real estate business in the world. Some dudes took over a ranch in Texas and built a telescope farm. They're managing hundreds and hundreds of scopes for other people and offering super dark skies and fiber internet so that folks can take amazing pictures of space. Behold Starfront Observatories.

I remember seeing this map before and being impressed and it's cool to see it in the lidar image too but it occurs to me that the reason it had impact is that I am realizing that things being large compared to me like a river gave me the impression that they were relatively stable, but they're actually just like a rivulet of water running down my windshield

I would regularly take off when I was 10 - i started off walking to the library about two and half miles away on a weekly basis and then taking the bus downtown to the main library about 15 miles away
American parents place strong limits on how far away from the house their kids are allowed to walk or bike alone. @FamStudies
