Something seems to have changed in Twitter. Last Wednesday I got my first "you have notifications" email since 2018, which is a nice fix!

I've been working on a new embedded operating system called Xous. It's a memory protected microkernel. I just released a port of Rust's standard library for it. So nice to have an allocator again. xobs.io/porting-rust-standar…

I was invited to review Singapore's #TraceTogether contact tracing token. Thoughts at bunniestudios.com/blog/?p=58… My favorite insight: Singapore needs a token to serve two groups: the underprivileged, and iPhone users. Both don't own a phone, but for different reasons. @GovTechSG

Thanks, Xobs. Good read. I decided not to duplicate what you did and have mine here: harishpillay.wordpress.com/2…

I got invited to the GovTech offices yesterday to take a look at the TraceTogether Token they developed. It's a sound approach they're taking. It was great to meet Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and hear some of the reasoning behind the Trace Together decisions.

I'm putting together a blogpost describing my take on this approach, as well as my views of Trace Together overall.

Informal survey: How many people have tried Foboot v2.0.3 (required for Circuitpython on Fomu)? Have you had any problems? I'm going to the factory and I'm considering whether to start shipping all new units.
75% I haven't tried v2.0.3
0% v2.0.3 didn't work
17% v2.0.3 worked just fine
8% Installed v2.0.3 updater

Found a sample with a defect! My own rework -_- The FOMU DVT board I got from @xobs early this year and tried to fix. Looks like I still have a short under the BGA 😨😳 @tomu_im I guess I'll need to go in and fix this agin at some point. x.com/GregDavill/status/1154…

Friday night. I think I'll attempt the repair on a dead fomu board @xobs gave me while I was at @LatchUpConf These were early DVT boards with two major issues. 1. Crystal mounted 180 2. Missing power to the FPGA. It's pretty likely I'll mess this up. But want to give it a go.

I'm trying to improve the performance of circuitpython-on-Fomu, and the easiest solution is to move some stuff into RAM. The question is: Which stuff? Hacky-no-profiler soltuion: break into gdb every 10 seconds, do a backtrace, and continue. Accelerate the functions in SPI flash.

The #fomu pcb is super tiny, so we use a drill to remove them from their panels. Sadlyzl, a few Fomu boards decided to go exploring as the drill bit came by. It looks like someone used the "erase" brush in real life. Happily, most came out unscathed! We'll fix this next time.

Just got done populating four light sensor boards. These will go in the #fomu factory tester to make sure the rgb led is working.
