I recently saw Peter Hyams' BUSTING (1974) for the first time and realized that the iconic foot chase in Quentin Tarantino's RESERVOIR DOGS (1992) seems to be paying homage to it. Fantastic debut films from two brilliant filmmakers.

Grocery store long take at 4x speed. Can you spot the clever trick they used to get the (pre-Steadicam!) camera down the stairs?

Also: check out how close this stuntman's head is when the squib goes off on the banister! His ears must have been ringing after that.

One nice thing about lame duck Twitter is that there’s no reason to judiciously mute anymore. Why just block bots, grifters, and hate speech? Block sealions! Block blue dudes! Block your boss! Block your family! Block anyone! Take off and block the site from orbit!

ALT Clip from Aliens: Ripley’s brief flamethrower-point “truce” with the Alien queen breaks when one of the eggs hatches nearby. Ripley tilts her head as if to say “Really? You’re going to make me do this?” with a profoundly tired expression, then starts flame-throwing the entire room.

It shows incredible foresight that Elon built a rocket capable of launching a payload into the sun at a crowdfundable price point right before he became the most hated person on the Internet.

If Twitter is an important part of your project's DevRel strategy, now might be a good time to start thinking about alternatives.

Hi friends! I'm in the market for new employment! I've been doing rust/go and language design and database read path work for the last few years. I'm also heavy in python dev. Would be interested what's out there.

Need to parse XML in Node.js or browsers? It happens to all of us sometimes. 👋 Say hello to parse-xml 4.0.0! 🚀 Now written in TypeScript, up to 2.5x as fast, and with an even smaller (3.9 kB min gzip) browser build. Still zero dependencies. github.com/rgrove/parse-xml

The most ludicrous thing about time travel stories isn't that someone found a way around the laws of physics, it's that someone correctly implemented the incomprehensible time zone math necessary to arrive at precisely 8am on September 2, 1885 instead of like 8 hours too early.

I think 5 day workweeks make people think tactically instead of strategically. We stay too close to the weeds. 4 day workweeks help us take a step back.

A trap developers often fall into is thinking deadlines are non-negotiable. If someone gives you a deadline and the only way to meet it is to incur unreasonable tech debt, it's your job to push back. The Marketing team (or whoever) isn't going to pay for that debt later. You are.

A related trap is recognizing that there are no good technical solutions but allowing a non-engineering stakeholder to decide which bad solution you implement. This creates the illusion that the bad decision wasn't your fault, but it doesn't alter the consequences.

Do you work on @bing or know someone who does? Bingbot often converts URLs to lowercase before fetching them, even though many URLs on the web are case sensitive. We'd love to understand why it does this. Is it testing canonicalization? Just broken? Something else?

I'm looking for someone who works on @bing bot that would be willing to talk to me about something for @SmugMug?

I don’t have any student loans, which apparently means I’m supposed to be mad that I’m not getting anything, but that’s silly. I’m heckin thrilled for everyone who benefits from loan forgiveness. Why wouldn’t I be? Life being easier for you doesn’t make it harder for me.
