A patient being rushed to hospital by ambulance northeast of Calgary ended up needing a second rescue after the ambulance itself was struck by a tractor on Highway 9 near Beiseker Tuesday afternoon.
Airdrie RCMP confirmed the ambulance had its emergency equipment activated at the time of the collision, roughly 50 kilometres northeast of Calgary.
Both paramedics were seriously injured and transported to hospital. STARS Air Ambulance was called in to take over, airlifting the original patient, who was in life-threatening condition, the rest of the way to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.
