Living Zen Ceremony: Tea, Scent, Breath, and Voice as Practice
With Yogetsu Akasaka and Dambi Kim
Sunday, May 3, 2:00-4:00 pm
City Center
A Living Zen Ceremony is a contemporary, practice-based gathering that invites participants to encounter Zen as a lived, embodied experience.
Rooted in silence, attentiveness, and impermanence, the ceremony unfolds through tea, scent, breath, and voice—each offered as a simple gateway to presence. Rather than something to observe, it is a shared practice that emerges through participation.
This offering is designed for the context of the San Francisco Zen Center, in the spirit of Shunryu Suzuki, who emphasized direct experience, simplicity, and “beginner’s mind.” It respects the center’s tradition of practice and discipline, while gently opening space for subtle, contemporary forms of embodied ritual.
