“Japan was very good, and I expected them to be good. They are very organized and disciplined, and they’ve got some great players with very good technical ability and tactical understanding as well.” I covered Japan vs. Netherlands for @japantimes: japantimes.co.jp/sports/2026…

Hosting the most World Cup matches this summer, Dallas will ostensibly see the highest amount of fans throughout the tournament. It's a good thing the city's hospitality is one of its best features. @ZachLowy writes: urbanpitch.com/the-dallas-wo…

Cristiano Ronaldo remains Portugal’s captain and all-time leading scorer, but should he still be an automatic starter at 41? Read the analysis and share your opinion. via @ZachLowy rg.org/en-ca/news/soccer/sho…

Simão Sabrosa once told me that the most important footballing trait isn’t speed, strength, dribbling or balance. It’s the first touch. Here at BTL, we’re giving creators the chance to create the perfect first touch that represents their unique identity. Ready to start? 👇👇
How's your touch? In football, a First Touch tells everyone everything. It sets up everything that comes next, it highlights your creativity and mental acuity, and it can be the difference between a win or a loss. What's more, you only ever get one First Touch.

You don't just get to compete with your friends and see who's the best at predicting results: you also get to rate each match and explain your thoughts, similarly to Letterboxd for movies.

We all know that Trump wanted this World Cup to be his propaganda stage. Just a few days ago, it was announced he'd lift the trophy with the winning team. But it doesn't have to be this way. What if I told you that you could dribble Trump? world-cup-against-trumpism.c…

x.com/ZachLowy/status/137700… @ZachLowy Thought they were missing Pepe today. Just remembered you calling it years ago.

30 Mar 2021
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Pepe is going to be harder for Portugal to replace than Cristiano Ronaldo. That being said, there are some promising options in defense, and getting Ezri Konsa to switch over would be a massive boost to their hopes.

Gonçalo Ramos: Two World Cup knockout matches, three goals. Cristiano Ronaldo: Eight World Cup knockout matches, zero goals. These are facts, not opinions.
Okay, now do Goncalo Ramos and whoever else you suggest replacing him. Because lately its been a lot of criticism from you but no alternative suggestions.

Is Cristiano Ronaldo as fast as he once was? Maybe not. Is Ronaldo as physically dominant as he once was? No. Is Ronaldo capable of creating separation from defenders & getting into dangerous areas? Perhaps not. But is he going to finish golden scoring opportunities? Also no.

Before I left for LA, I spoke to an Iranian-American friend. She told me that she was rooting for Iran to lose all of their games in the World Cup. Why are so many members of the Iranian diaspora rooting against Team Melli? My latest for @FirstpostSports:
(1/4) As Iran 🇮🇷 were preparing to open their World Cup campaign at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, some Iranian-Americans outside the venue were hoping for their team to lose👎 🧵

Auckland FC being added to A-League two years ago (and winning it this season) has been a massive boon for NZ football. Add to the players plying their trade in Europe (especially in the Championship) and the future is bright for the All Whites.
