If you actually believe changing who Katara ended up with would somehow fix her writing, then your issue isn’t actually with her character.

Genuinely don't get why zootara's are allergic to context
1) katara encourages him in the movie to literally find out what the denied are planning 2) he writes her a letter and apologises for having to leave 3) he only leaves to get a head start, she was always gonna be coming, he just didn’t want to wake her in the middle of the night 4) i think it’s pretty well established in their relationship that either of them may have to take off at certain points suddenly because their jobs are literally protecting the world

Like whoever came up with that idea for the movie's script must've been on some kind of drugs because it takes away SO MUCH value from ATLA's themes and how Aang's character is handled in there.
