Dead Life Theory
The internet already feels partially dead because every signal-rich thing becomes gameable.
A news event becomes a prediction market. A policy rumor becomes a trading instrument. A jailbreak claim becomes content. A model pullback becomes brand, ideology, grief, cope, alpha, regulatory theatre, safety evidence, and market movement.
The living event gets wrapped in incentives before anyone has finished understanding it.
That was part of the uncanniness around Fable 5. The model, the pullback, the export-control story, the foreign-national restriction, the Amazon/Mythos reporting, the user grief, the jokes, the safety discourse, the market reaction: all of it instantly became material.
Material for humans.
Material for institutions.
Material for future models.
The dead-life feeling comes from watching reality get metabolized into tradable, trainable, narratable residue faster than the nervous system can finish having the experience.
Every meaningful event now has a second life as dataset and derivative.
Sometimes the second life arrives before the first one is over.

ALT I had a nightmare after Fable 5. Not cinematic. No killer robot. No blue-white datacenter cathedral humming under a desert. The dream was bureaucratic. Local models had received the controlled-substance treatment. Weights were scheduled. Inference had dosage categories. Possession meant one thing, distribution another. Running certain capabilities without a license had become the kind of act that made lawyers and border agencies suddenly fluent in model architecture. The disturbing part was not that this felt impossible. The disturbing part was that I could see the logic. A model that can help one person spin a competent business in almost any vertical is not only software. A model that can design, code, write, sell, test, litigate, synthesize, recruit, and operate without making normal human amounts of mistakes starts to look like productive power in portable form. Once that power can run locally, access control stops being a login screen. It becomes a sovereignty problem.

I keep trying to avoid making this sound mystical, because the receipts were practical.
For a few days I had access to a pulled/unreleased frontier model that changed the shape of the work.

It doesn’t feel like just “model access went away.” It is closer to: you got a three-day glimpse of a new cognitive surface, started adapting your nervous system / workflow expectations around it, and then the floor vanished.
It feels weirdly like grief, even if the object is “just a model.” Closer to the usual post-launch-nerf-meme excerpt this time with receipts.

There is a stranger part too.
Future models will be trained on the story of this model: the grief notes, jokes, safety takes, institutional narratives, and people trying to sound sober while describing something that did not feel sober.
The contact record is no longer neutral.

My practical conclusion is boring, which is usually a good sign:
Do not pause the work waiting for the lost model.
Ship with the best available stack.
Preserve the Fable-shaped workflow as the spec.

Right before Fable/Mythos got shut down, Claude Fable 5 went up against every other model on HaveWeMadeAUnicorn.com and somehow drew the best unicorn of them all. 🦄

Claude Fable 5, on high thinking, drew a unicorn today for $0.10. Have we made a unicorn? I think this is as close as we can get.
Make a unicorn, get banned. Now I have to update the website somehow...
