What actually happened?🤷🏽♂️
Microsoft told its internal, salaried employees (the people building Windows, Office, and Teams) that they can no longer use Anthropic’s official command-line tool, Claude Code, on the company dime. They have until June 30 to switch over to Microsoft’s own internal tool, GitHub Copilot CLI.
Why did Microsoft do it?🤷🏽♂️
Because agentic tools read huge context windows, scan entire repositories, and run autonomous loops to fix bugs, engineers were racking up un-capped bills reaching up to $2,000 a month per person.
Microsoft basically looked at the utility bill and said:
“Wait, we own GitHub. Why are we paying millions to Anthropic when we can make our staff use our own flat-rate Copilot infrastructure?”
Microsoft bans Claude Code after AI costs more than human it replaced 😂
