I recently watched The Queen's Gambit, a story about a young girl who discovered chess early and became completely devoted to mastering the game.
While watching, I noticed something interesting. Chess and whitehat hacking or auditing actually have a lot in common.
When you audit smart contracts, you are not just reading code. You are trying to understand the mind of an attacker / malicious users before they ever make a move.
In chess, every piece has a role, every position has a purpose, and every careless move has a price. Auditing works the same way. Every line of code has consequences. Every unchecked assumption can be exploited. One mistake can cost everything.
Both require clear and disciplined thinking.
A. Strategic thinking, because you do not just react to what you see, you predict what is likely to come next.
B. Pattern recognition, because after some time you begin to sense when something is off, the same way a good chess player senses a trap.
C. Creativity, because the best players and the best hackers are the ones who see what others do not.
I think I have just found a new hobby. Chess.
XD:) ♟️
